  1. I would like to run Marathons in August, September and October in and
around Atlanta area. I would like to space them about about a month
apart. Any suggestions on which marathons to run?

google can't tell him which ones to run. It can tell him which ones he
can run. Maybe he was asking for personal opinions of folks here.

Phil might be able to suggest some.

To the OP: why three marathons in three months?

Perhaps the same reason a buddy of mine ran marathons in each of the new
england states last year, and even 2 on one weekend to accomplish that.

unless his conception of "Atlanta area" has a couple thousand
    kilometer radius.

or if "marathon" means a longish foot race? hey, we've seen worse here,
    no?

???Marathon in August are you sure???

    For August, I can suggest:
Hot To Trot 8 Hour Race
    http://www.tynesweb.com/h2t/

Strictly speaking this is NOT a marathon. It is an 8 Hour Race...
For 2006 race, 28 out of 31 _veteran ultra runners_ finished 26.2
miles or better. The winner went over 50 miles in the Georgia heat!

Have a look at the 2006 photos to get a sense of the event.

As for September and October you're on your own.

I am running around 25-30 miles a week. I did the MC Marathon last
year. It was my first one. Then Atlanta Half in November and ING half
    at Atlanta in March.
I wanted to run those Marathons ( August to September) to get used to
running for 4-5 hours so that one day in near future ( Feb or Mar
2008) run an Ultra. I love to run. My favorite movie is Running on the
    Sun by Mel Stuart.

I checked out the website provided by Piedmont Donald. I love the idea
of running in 80 to 90 F. I enjoy the pain. I ran last summer at
Stone Mountain. Those runs used to be between 2 to 4 hours every
Sunday. This year with some practice I think I could do the Hot to
trot. http://www.tynesweb.com/h2t/ . Thank you for your suggestions.
I think it will be very exciting. I will try to run 32 miles to
complete a 50 K. By the way, do you know where it was held last year?
The website did not mention a venue. I hope it is going to be in
    Piedmont park.

I used the Marathonguide.com and did not find any Marathon within 100
miles of Atlanta between August and October. November we have the
Marathon at Atlanta on Thanksgiving day. I did the half last year. I
do not want to run the same event again.

I sure do appreciate your response.

What time of day did you do these 2 - 4 hours Sunday runs?

With _one_ marathon under your belt, and no ultra experience you want to
run an 8 hour race in August??? Remember that the Race Director is
allowing "Veteran ultra runners ONLY!" I'd be working on my "proof of
worthiness" and sweet talking the RD big-time if I were you. Good Luck!

Oops! I did a little looking around. Was that you with a 2:31 half in
Atlanta last year? No insult intended, but are you really ready?

Generally, it's considered advisable to take it one step at a time in
this sport. Enthusiasm is important, but it should also be tempered with
a healthy dose of patience and caution. It's all about long term development,
    cumulative miles and gradual buildup.

Most ultras, even "short" 50k ultras are not just a road marathon + 5 miles.
They are often raced under more challenging conditions (heat), and on more
challenging courses (very steep inclines, trails).

To prepare for these, you will need to be comfortable with very long runs,
and you will probably need more training volume under your belt to get there.

I'll leave it to the ultra gurus to specifically advise you on races, but they
will most likely suggest you try a trail marathon (which will be more like an
ultra in terms of actual racing duration) or a relatively "easy" 50k race.

    Cheers,
