Life, and I think it said something about pregnant women eating as though
they're on maintenance -- in other words, not to lose but to hold steady. But
that's just off the top of my head. I'm sure there's more on the site.Congrats, btw.

You should do what your doctor tells you to do. Having said that...
My PERSONAL advice is to switch to an isocaloric slightly above
maintenance diet. I.e. each meal has equal calories from carbs,
proteins, and fats, with carbs coming from fruits and veggies and fats
balanced between mono, poly, and saturated. You want two things for
the baby:1. Provide adequate nutrients of ALL types, without excess in any one
type.2. Provide sufficient calories for growth. I.e. you want to gain 0.5
lbs/week for 40 weeks = 20 lbs, or only 250 "extra" calories a day.
That's approximately maintenance for you when all is said and done. You'll still get most of the hunger supression through blood glucose
control, fat and protein intake, and fiber; rather than ketosis. But
now is not the time to worry about losing weight - the baby is higher
priority. However, that's no excuse to go back to unhealthy eating -
you still need to eat healthy, just a different type of healthy. -

Who said they were mutually exclusive? I assumed she'd be consulting her
doctor anyway, because that's basic. Aside from the fact that most doctors
completely misunderstand low-carb, however, the standard these days is to
research on the Internet to go into your doctor visit with as much information
as possible. That way you can ask better, more pertinent questions and have a
more constructive conversation with your doctor.Get with the 21st century before you start telling people they're wrong.

That's really a question for your doctor, as most will tell you.
This is a great group for dietary discussion and help. But for something
medical, such as a pregnancy, don't rely on what people tell you here as the
final word.Especially if they refer you to a commercial (and self-serving) web site.

Pregnancy is medical? I thought it was a natural bodily function. All this
advice to talk to your doctor is ridiculous when we all know that doctors
know very little about nutrition. I would do my own research on the web,
this has been discussed in this group several times and there are a number
of posters who have had babies recently so they can give their own
experiences. I personally think the advice to eat at maintenance levels is
a reasonable approach.In news:roTSc.276347$JR4.257890@attbi_s54,

CONGRATULATIONS!!! You are in for an amazing roller-coaster ride
for the rest of your life. Many people have successfully used a low-carb approach during their
pregnancies with a very happy outcome. In fact, there's a mailing
list at Yahoo for Pregnant Atkins followers at
http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/PregnantAtkids/
which might be able to help you decide the best course for you to
follow. When I had my daughters, 9 and 8 years ago now, the eating plan my OB
recommended was very similar to Atkins Maintenance, with a focus on
proteins, vegetables and healthy fats with minimal processed grains or
fruits.Best of luck as you face this exciting, scary and wonderful adventure
that will last the rest of your life.Aramanth

Hi. Congratulations on the pregnancy. What stage of your weightloss are
you at? If you are already at maintenance, just continue eating at
maintenance levels. If you're still trying to lose, increase your carbs to
maintenance levels while you are pregnant - this is what Atkins recommended.Come along to the PregnantAtkids group at Yahoo Groups. It's a group of
pregnant, new mums, and breastfeeding mum's who low carb. Heaps of great
information and experiences.--

It takes two to tango but it's still very natural for most people. Millions
of babies are born every year to women who have never seen a doctor in their
life.In news:[email hidden],

congrats on the baby! I am trying to get pregnant and often wondered the
same thing. With so many doctors out there that are negative about Low
carbing I would personally close up if they told me to stop Low carbing when
I get pregnant and just do it anyway. I trust the late Dr. A enough to
follow maintenance if and when I become pregnant. But you have to be the
judge for yourself. This is your decision.
But definitely see your doc (I'm sure you already have). who knows, maybe
the doc is fine with Low Carbing.
Sending you best wishes,Tonya
