When doing heavy (~295 - heavy for me) ATG (feet wider apart, toes pointed out) squats, I get a pulling sensation from my inner thighs. From what I can tell, it seems to be either my adductors, gracilis, or pectineus. Sometimes I'll get DOMS just in that area.
Are these muscles just not as strong as my quads/hams/gluts and that's causing the discomfort, or is this a normal feeling with heavy ATG squats? Am I looking for an injury if I continue going heavier? TIA.

When I do sumo squats I can just barely get past parallel. It just pulls to hard on my inner thigh as you call it. Feet set up shoulder width I have no problem going ATG.

I suspect you are addictius to your peckerus. Stop tuggin' your peckerus so much, and it won't hurt so much, and your squinty eyes will get better too.

I don't normally respond to trolls, but , , no [censored] Bill - is that why I get squinty eyes??

Well if she was three dimensional, I agree. But if she was flat (not in a tittie sorta way) and hung on the wall, that might explain the squinty eyes in the family.

I'm not Keith, but I asked him this question the other day. Probably your knees aren't tracking properly, ie your toes are out but your knees are inside of them. Try pushing your knees more out so they track directly in line with your feet. If you can't do that, you need to adjust your stance.

You sound like you are doing a powerlifting style squat, which is low, but not really ATTG. The groin muscles contract eccentrically during the lowering portion (adductor group) quite strongly and most people aren't used to it. As you continue to use this method you'll adapt to it and won't be as sore. But it does take some getting used to. Until then build weight up slowly.
From what I read, the wider you place the feet, the more the inside of the thigh is exercised. The closer you place the feet, the more the outside of the thighs are exercised.

John, a technique some people use, and which I recommend you give a try, is actively pulling yourself into the hole using just those muscles which you're talking about - it may help your squat overall. Try to use them to push your hips back, almost to pull your hips farther away from your knees (I know that sounds weird but try it before you dismiss it). When I do this, I find I can squat more weight, all other things being equal. I'm no heavy-weight squatter but this technique has been helpful to me.
