Met with a coach today and did an AT test, my hrt would not get above 145!@440 watts i felt like i was gonna fall over but still hrt only 145. after i left his office i went for ride, warmed up for 3 miles and hit a hill that gets my hrt up. at the end of the climb my hrt was 168 about where it usaly is at the end of that climb. the last 3 days i been riding easy in recovery zone and eating and staying hydrated, any input on why my hrt would be so low on his trainer but yet felt like the most effort i ever produced? he said we will have to retest in another 7 days he had no explanation based on what i told him, being my max is 185 highest hrt i can sustain for an hour is 166-170 im hydrayted and eating well and not over trained.

were you using the same HRM for both tests? i'd rule equipment malfunction out before anything else...

Yes same hrt monitor i used at test i used on ride. while doing test i turnred it on & off thinking it needed to reset or somthing but that didn't help, and the readings were not eractic like interferance.

Happened to me when I was a guinea pig, with others, doing testing for the Australian Wool Corporation and the government R&D organisation (CSIRO) for a fabric to be used in competition gear for Oz athletes for the '96 Atlanta Olympics. The fabric became known as Sportwool.

The test bike was unadaptable to my position, particularly wider Q factor, and I could get nowhere near my expected AT level in the preliminary test. So I glowed through the tests rather than perspired or sweated 🙂

ricWarmed up for around 15 min easy spin, then as test started he increased watts+10 every few min and asked on a scale of 1-20 how i was feeling 20 being the most painful. at 400 watts it felt like 19 my hrt was like 145 he increased watts to 410 i said 20 he then increased more and said another 10 sec at this point i felt maxed out. i think the trainer was a cycleops? not sure and not sure of power meter but he said it measured the pressure of the tire on the roller, and i used my hrt monitor a polar thanks.
and by the way i used my bike on his trainer

I believe, the different position, including much smaller crank lengths, emphasised unused muscles on the lab ergo and caused a false reading.
On this page there is a pic of the gym type ergo used (no, I'm not the rider).

That sure is a gay looking machine. i guess i can't expect an anserw of what happin at the AT test even the coach had no explanation. im eager to get coached and can't i guess till we get some numbers to work with. is the AT number just 1 number say 166bpm or can it be 166- 170? when climbing i can hold 166-170 without blowing up so would the smallest # be my AT?
