    I was a bit surprised to hear this, but it makes sense in a strange
    way. I really don't blame the Giro oragnizers for leaving out teams
    that show up merely to train or have a presence. After all Discovery
    typically sent a b-team at best to the Giro.

    Astana's past doping reputation still haunts the team as well. Johan's
    decision to hire Kloden and his past decision to hire Basso raises
    legitemete questions. A bunch of dopers like team High Road has no
    place in racing today.

    why don't the GT organizers drop the passive aggressive BS and just
    say they want to let the UCI and the teams know that they control the
    sport ?

    the doping history excuse is a lame one when LPR is invited even
    though diluca is CURRENTLY SUSPENDED, and the teams of formerly
    suspended dopers like axelsson and millar are invited.

    Indeed. Past doping use is not an issue for the Giro organizers, and
    rightly so. Because it currently is wise to be anti-doping, from a
    business and PR perspective, they are using it to their advantage.

    And did Bruyneel actually "hire" Kloden? I thought the UCI rules
    required that Astana's existing rider contracts be honored, and
    Kloden's contract goes until the end of 2008, I think.
