Why did the ASO invite Astana/Liberty Seguros to the tour. Surely a problem waiting to happen.

They are as vapid as the UCI in shooting their foot off.

right, b/c astana is the only team with dopers... 🙄

Can someone explain to me what sources of funding the UCI has? Do they get a sanctioning fee for events like the head organizations of some other sports? If so then it would seem that the ASO pulling out would cause the UCI to take a serious budget hit.

No, but because of the legacy with Saiz/LS/OP. What I'm saying is that the ASO can't simply blame the UCI or anybody else. They can't have it both ways. They [censored] and moan but they've played the game for years. Now they act shocked and outraged.

The UCI could prevent riders from competing in the TDF and a few other ASO owned races. {if they want to compete in the other main races] And from the looks of it, no one will be at the TDF next year anyway. The Giro might replace the TDF over the next few years as the sports premier event.. It really has a lot top offer the fan.

This entire doping thing is nothing more then a pissing match for power between the ASO and the UCI. It seems to me that the beginning of the ProTour was the thing that sparked all of this.
We have no more doping at the races then we ever did. However, it seems to me that the UCI is going out of it's way to damage the TDF. And vice versa.......

IMO nothing will change until the riders unite and form their own union. I'm not a fan of unions, but if one was ever needed it is cycling. These riders are getting abused from all sides, millions are being made and cyclist are sacrificing their bodies and lives for this sport. The ASO could care less about doping, they are trying to protect the sponsor money.

It is the paradigm that must be resolved.

The UCI tried that earlier this year. It did not work out so well for the UCI.

I would not be surprised to see the other GTs join the ASO. Events like the Tour of Germany are also probably candidates.
