I was at a charity ride once and a car pulled into the parking area next to me. The couple got out and quickly realized that a front wheel had fallen off of one of the bikes. They were an hour from home with no idea where it had come off. They went cruising the parking area asking people if anyone had a spare front wheel???

at least your's came off at the end of your ride.

Hmm... If it hadn't been for you first noting the bike dragging, I would've suspected that extraterrestrials swiped the wheel. Those tricky [censored] took a cyclocomputer off my bike right while I was riding it early last spring without me even noticing!!:p

I was waiting for someone to comment on the "luck." As I stated, my friend assured me that she knew how to secure the bikes. I do value the bike which is why I normally transport the bike in my car. I will never allow anyone else to secure my bike in the future, that's for sure. In fact, I doubt I'll ever put it on another bike rack.

Tying a knot in the nylon <i>webbing</i>??!! Oh man, if your friend keeps on doing that she's going to lose parts of her bike too. On the other hand, what the heck kind of bike rack requires you to make a knot on some nylon webbing to secure a bike? That's normally accomplished by, um, specially designed frame clamps...

Or do you mean the clamping mechanism broke apart and you had to use the knot as a ghetto-style replacement?

There's nothing wrong with a proper knot in nylon webbing....just ask any climber. The important word here is 'proper.'

BTW, the 'ghetto' comment really demonstrates well developed critical thinking skills. Thanks for the insight into how a neanderthal throwback thinks.
