I was getting worried I had not received my pass for the ride this year... I was getting more worried because I have guys in my team coming down from Brisbane.... so I heads to the site and try to find some news.
BIBS...!! BIBS...!! BIBS...!!
wait a minute.... I have a team all members wearing my companys' top... I have to whack BIBS over the front and back now! fantastic..!
they obviously have some real bright thinkers in that organization.... why cant they just tattoo barcodes on our heads.... and scan us when we go through the cattle gates ??

You've obviously missed some of the angry posts about BV. You have to remember, they're "recreational" riders at BV.
It all started when they moved into the corporate, no bikes in the foyer please, CBD office. I know I'll let my membership slip when the notices come rolling in at the end of the year.

I swear, it's almost as if they're *trying* to persuade people not to come! Unbelievable.

Fsck it. Just put it in a pocket, and pull it out when they want to see it.

BTW When are you supposed to pick up these bibs? On the day? What mayhem that will be. Are they forcing people to all attend the starting line instead of starting wherever you wanted to in order to beat the crush?

Lunacy!

BV appears to be a little confused about this. It says in one place that you can pick up the jersey on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday before the race. In another place it says you can pick up the jersey and bib on Sunday morning. Try calling BV to suggest that they have the bibs available on prior days and that they update the web page accordingly. I'm doing the 50km/h ride and will pick it up on the morning since I'm not racing to catch a ferry.
They claim to be using bibs for a number of reasons, the only one which really has any relevance is "1. It replaces the Passport, which was easily lost"
So all you need to do is make sure that the bib solution for this year doesn't work any better than the passport solution of prior years :-)
I'll put the bib on my shirt, so if it rains or is cold, they won't be able to see it unless I unzip and flash it.

Be inventive. Figure out how to make the company logo as visible as possible, and the bib as hard to read as possible.
Anyone doing the ride to the Sorrento pub & back [to Melbourne] on the 'Around the Bay ride' day? [Around the bar ride]
No bibs required, although there's no sag wagon or sandwitches, but you do get a seat at the pub, beer & as much food as you're willing to pay for.
Also offering the option to time yourself or not. It's not really a competitive event unless you have a few mates who are up for it.
No prices set yet, but as entry forms & entry fees require lots of paperwork & administration the whole idea of charging people to do this ride has been dropped.

yeah we all know you can do the ride anytime you want to....
all of my team members are getting sponsored, so we are raising money for the charity, then my company matches those dollars raised.... there is more to just doing the ride....

And for those of us who regulary ride along the same roads as part of a normal training ride? Are we going to be kept off the roads or something?
Yes, locked up in detention is the normal route for these things I think, just for thinking in such a subversive way.

Wow that's fast!!! 😉
Whoops. On second thoughts, I'm doing the 50km ride at 20km/h. Maybe a little faster if I can find someone to draft. The only time I've got any chance of reaching 50km/h is descending off the West Gate Bridge.
I remember that ride as my first participation in a (for me, at least) long fun ride. It was the furthest I'd ever been in a day (~140k) on my brand new ally Giant road bike with SPD walkable shoes - (so exciting!)... The course went up and down and up and down through Gisborne, Woodend, Bacchus Marsh and ended in Sunbury.
Furthermore, I was overweight, quite unfit and the bike didn't really fit. It was probably the most painful day of riding I've ever experienced, but most rewarding 'cos I made it to the end.
