  1. There is a new story circulating today that a former assistant of Lance
Armstrong claims that he found a bottle of anabolic steroids while
    cleaning Lance's bathroom.

Are steroids even a temptation for road cyclists? I realize that they have
been big news in certain kind of sports, but I can't recall any scandals
involving endurance sports. Blood doping of all kinds is obviously a
problem in road cycling, but would the muscle-building effect of steroids
be something that someone like Armstrong would want, even if you assume he
were completely unethical and unafraid of being caught?

I recall some female cyclists admitting to steroid use back in the
1980s (Cindy Olavarri and Rebecca Twigg if I remember correctly).

My local sports talk honks were discussing this early this AM; I guess the
guy (Mike Anderson?) was on ESPN last night.

They played a number of sound bites from the interview, and the guy did NOT
    sound credible at all. First, he was fired by LA, so has an ax to grind;
and Second, he claims to have found a vial "that LOOKED like it could be a
steroid" in LA's medicine cabinet in Spain, before Armstrong was even in the
country. (Would Lance be stupid enough to leave ANY banned substance in his
    medicine cabinet?!?)

I'd have to see the entire show to really judge the guy, but from what I
heard I'd say he's just out to take Armstrong down. (He also whined how he
"expected" to be employed for next 2-3 years, AND thought LA was going to
help him set up a bike shop business following that.)

No pictures, no documentation, no proof...no credibility.

    Next!

Sure, pick on the women cyclists. At least they admitted it. Steroid
abuse is in every sport. A recent report indicated that 6.6% of male
high school seniors use steroids or have used them in the past. The
incidence of steroid use among females, 2%, is much lower. Of these
users, a large majority initiated use before they were 17 years old.
These surveys report that the primary reason high school males take
steroids is to improve athletic performance. Also with some, to improve
    their body image.
I have two nephews who became caught up with steroid use during their
high school football days. They were the star athletes at school. Now
that they are in their early 30's, they realize how stupid they were.
Their parents caught it fast while they were still in High School and
put an end to it. Who knows how long it would have gone on with them
and what they would be suffering today if it was not stopped.
If Lance or any other professional athletic is or has taken steroids,
they should admit it, and help keep kids from following the same path.
Thats what they should do, but usually when people are not caught, they
    don't tell.

  5. I'm listening to a live interview with LA on the Jim Rome Show. Total
denial of the guy's allegations; also says Anderson tried to extort $500K
    from him "to go away".

    OK, it just ended.

    Good stuff.

    BS (not in this case)

Nah, I'm not picking on women. And there's no doubt cycling and other
sports are rife with drug use. But the specific question was about
steroids. I'm not aware of many cyclists using steroids, probably
because they don't want the extra bulk (weight). Or maybe because it's
too easily detected. My only recollection of documented steroid use in
    cycling was among women.

Yeah, I agree with you. If Armstrong is smart enough to beat every doping
test, he's certainly not going to be stupid enough to leave the evidence in
his bathroom cabinet! The guy is looking for his 15 minutes of fame and just
maybe enough money to set himself up in that bike shop he covets.

It would make more sense for a track cyclist than an endurance cyclist. Look
at how big Marty Nothstein was, or Nelson Vails. Now look at Armstrong,
Landis, Tyler Hamilton(not a steroid user, possibly EPO). I would say
steroids no, EPO possibly, if anything.

Fabrizio decides to opena bike shop, co-incidence? I think not! Hey
Fabrizio was that you that made that acquisation? ;-)

and lance has already denied it on the air, saying that the guy
wanted $500,000 to "go away". doesn't sound very credible to me.

when are all these jealous idiots going to give up?

  13. Armstrong has a personal doctor for long time who checked and monitoed
    Lance's body chemical
activity. Jose Canseco, a former Stereoid Homerun champion, admitted
    there are many way
to beat the doping test and many type of drug out there.
Lance certainly knew what he was doing to his body while taking
    stereoid and anti-cancer drug.
Who knows he took both and there is no way to find out what kind of
    hormone he took it while
he rode in the Tour De France. Even he took the anti-cancer drug, how
    did we know it's 100% anti-cancer drug.

  14. You should say that to the Jose Canseco and ton of baseball players..
It is hard to believe Lance Armstrong is clean and innocense.
This is not about money. It's about Armstrong's ego. He just wants
another Tour De France any way possible. Winning ugly is what he wants.
Lance does not give a [censored] about what kind of illegal drug he takes. As
    long
as he wins, that's all it matter. That was the attitude of Jose Canseco
    while
he was doping with stereoid. How many baseball fans thought Jose
    Canseco
the MLB homerun champion was the doping with hormone and stereoid?
ZERO. Who knows what kind of drug Lance is taking? The guy should be
    ban
from riding any cycle competition. He has too many accused allegations.
    Whether
the latest allegatoin is true or not, the fact is that he has too many
    allegation.
    Why is that?

Lance Armstrong has to be the most tested athlete in the world. He is tested
monthly; he is tested after a race. Go take your conspiracy theories
    somewhere else.

  17. : You should say that to the Jose Canseco and ton of baseball players..

Jose Canseco was taking steroids. They make bulky muscle. Does Lance have a
lot of bulky muscle? Has he gained weight? Is his neck circumference larger
    than his skull?

: It is hard to believe Lance Armstrong is clean and innocense.

It is hard for YOU to believe it. That's all. You have a problem.

: Lance does not give a [censored] about what kind of illegal drug he takes. As

And your FACTS for these opinions would be what? Either post some facts or
    shut up.

That was the attitude of Jose Canseco
    : while
: he was doping with stereoid. How many baseball fans thought Jose
    : Canseco
: the MLB homerun champion was the doping with hormone and stereoid?

Plenty of people thought so because Canseco had all the hallmarks of steroid
usage. You might want to look up those symptoms--oh no, I forgot. You just
want to throw out slurs. You don't care about truth or facts.

Who knows what kind of drug Lance is taking? The guy should be
    : ban
: from riding any cycle competition. He has too many accused allegations.
    : Whether
: the latest allegatoin is true or not, the fact is that he has too many

We have this little idea in our country that a person is innocent until
proven guilty. Maybe you've heard of that. Apparently not. All you want to
do is listen to sore losers and their allegations---allegations without any
    proof whatso ever.

    : Why is that?

Because poor losers have to come up with an excuse as to why they lost the
    race. It's that simple.

This is a toughie. Turd density drugs aside. Looking at the recent
balco scandal... That's a tough one. Look at recent findings in gene
therapy. More tough ones. The honest truth I believe is that is is
very possible for him to be on something that people just don't know
about now and test for. Yes he is the most tested athlete on the
planet. What does that really mean? He is NOT failing tests for the
drugs we know about. It doesn't mean that he isn't taking something
    that we DON"T know about however. {snip}

Can't argue with THAT logic! (Of course, the same can be said about every
person on earth. Maybe the late Pope John Paul II was on
performance-enhancing substances! Just because he never TESTED positive...)

One point from Armstrong's interview on the Rome show: he said
(paraphrasing), "Test my blood; test my urine; hell, keep the samples for 5,
10, 25 years and THEN test 'em. I'm clean."

He also made the point that, after facing near-death due to cancer, he would
never jeopardize his health just to gain an athletic edge. Flat out not
    worth it.

Until proven otherwise, I believe him.

    Bill S.

  19. If someone said to me that it was possible to beat a 3000 metre individual
pursuit record by almost 5 secs I would have said it was impossible but New
Zealands Sarah Ulmer did it, and all down to bloody single mindedness and
hard work. I beleive that is what Lance has, unfortunatly a celebrity
profile means that people who do not have that ability, see arrogance, and
set out to bring him down. Tall poppy syndrome.
    Ride on
    Kim

  20. Why not he reveal his medical record so that we can see
what kind of anti-cancer chemo he takes. And he should
reveal his personal doctor. Current anti-doping method is not
effective. The medial test lab is trying to improve better way
to find the doping espcially when you are dealing with the guy
know about the drug and the body chemistry. Lance is a trained
body chemistist and knows how to get away from the doping
than most peopl could. No matter Lance keeps total innocent, there
is always a hole to escape.
