What the heck ever happened to Lance and the World Hour Record? I bet he won't try it unless he is
very confident of setting a new record, but I have heard absolutely nothing about any plans at all.

Lance never said he was interested in the Hour. As a matter of fact as long as one must use a UCi
compliant frame, no one is going to break Boardman's record for a very very long time.Anyway, if Lance does decide to try for the Hour record, then he will do so only after his #6 win in
Paris. There is no money and nothing else except a line in a record book to ride 60 minutes as fast
as one can. Plus it also means training on a track and I do not know that Lance has any track
experience to speak of as did Boardman and the other Europeans at some point in their careers."Nick Burns" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

They have 2 hour records now. One for UCI compliant, the other isn't. You haven't been paying
attention. -

Actually, he stated one time that "3600 seconds was on his time", and he's answered questions in
interviews since in which he indicated that it was being discussed.Quoted message said:

Boardman's record for a very very long time.I think Boardman's swan song "athlete's record" is well within reach. Boardman, after all, was only
producing about 90% of the power he maintained in setting his ultimate hour record. Now *that* is
one that I think would have stood for a very, very long time, even if the UCI hadn't changed the
rules such that you can no longer use aerobars (or other aero aids - but the position, and to a
lesser extent the wheels, are more important than the frame). In fact, I posted here a long time ago
stating that Armstrong couldn't break it, and nothing he's done since has changed my mind.Quoted message said:

All of this is true. OTOH, Tony Rominger had no track experience when he went after the hour,
so provided you're generating enough power the lack of track experience isn't an
insurmontable obstacle.Andy Coggan

comes from the extreme prestige of holding the record, especially when the holder is critisized for
racing in too few races. An hour record would be a great answer to those critics. I believe that is
exactly what drove Indurain to attempt the record, and his palmares was a bit more healthy than
Lance's (although that depends on how you weight a Mig's Giros and early week long stage races vs.
Lance's 2 minor classics and a WC Road vs. Mig's WC for ITT.Win or lose next year at the Tour, Lance should carry on to the Clasica San Sebastian. This course
suits him more than ever (he won it when he weighed 12 kilos more than now). Then is he fails or
passes on the hour attempt, he would have the absolute TDF record and a few nice classics. I would
love to see him win at Lombardia. Maybe Lance could carry his form that long in to the year if it is
his last. I am not entirely clear on why he stops in September but I assume it has a lot to do with
keeping his successful year patterns as close as possible year to year.Quoted message said:

In what way? Instead of being a schmuck who didn't race enough, he'll be a fast schmuck that didn't
race enough. -

influential motivator for Lance. As a side note, I wonder if he divorce will allow him to extend his season later in the year? I know
he won't mess with he pre-Tour preparation, but maybe part of the reason he quits early each year is
from pressure to get back off the road to be a family man. I doubt it. -

he is handling his visitation, I see that you are likely correct.
