Had yet another puncture late last night miles from home. That's the 7th in the 9 months I've had my Specialized Sirrus with Armadillo tyres (700/28c). I thought these tyres were meant to be pretty puncture resistant. It's happened on both back and front, much of the time it's been caused by thorns and, yes, I always remove the offending bits when I change the inner tube. This compares with about 5 flats in 10 years with my previous hybrid.
Is it just bad luck or have any of you guys any similar experience?
It could well be bad luck - I ran 23mm Armadillos all winter on my hack bike and had no punctures at all (a first for me on winter training rides) - I even pulled a load of flints out of the rear tyre after an especially wet and muddy Hemel Hempstead CC Reliability Ride that had not gone right thro' the casing. I love the Armadillos for their puncture resistance, but I find their grip (especially in the wet) a bit suspect and had a tumble a few weeks back which I put down to this. I am now running Conti Gator Skins, which are more pliable but do puncture more and are also more susceptible to pinch flats.
Have Specialized changed the rubber compound since I bought my Armadillos 18 months ago?? Someone told me that they thought this was the case, so maybe you've got the new version?

I haven't had a single puncture on mine in about 2300km on the bike. I did have two valve failures, but that's nothing to do with the tyres. I commute in London, through some dodgy roads which often have broken glass. I also did a few rides past hedge trimmers in action in Kent country lanes, no problems.

I forgot to add that I probably have exactly the same tyres - on a Sirrus Elite 2004, 700x28 as well.

I changed to Armadillo's after getting about 10 flats in a fortnight (or it seemed that way) in my cross London commute, since changing <whispers> no p*nct*res, and that's after about 2000 miles of cycling. Must agree tho that the grip can be a bit suspect, and they aren't the lightest of tyres, but I don't car so long as they keep beahig as they have.
Thanks for your responses, which reflect what I would have expected given the good reputation of the Armadillos. I haven't been able to find out if the rubber has changed recently and what that might mean.
Must be just my bad luck. But I do agree about the slightly suspect grip.
I've now replaced the back one (I'd already replaced the front) with a slightly broader (32) Conti City Contact.

I used to use these tyres, but found that when I did get a puncture that the kevlar belt edges poked through to the inner tube causing more punctures. If you do get this, then you may need to glue a bit of canvas to the inside of the tyre to stop it happening.

Ah, that may explain what I found, that they seemed incredibly tough at first but fairly poor following the first puncture or two.
