It's going to be more complicated, and you'll probably have to pay. Be sure to
go to AOL keyword "tell us", and say that you're planning to cancel your AOL
subscription because of the newsgroups issue. It's a pity -- the AOL
newsreader was simple and had good basic features.
Forte seems to be the most popular alternative:
www.forteinc.com
Or google "newsreader" or "newsreader reviews" or somesuch, to find more leads.
There are no-charge alternatives, including google itself, but you may get
what you pay for. If the AOL newsreader does suddenly disappear, you'll be
able to read bicycles.marketplace pretty easily at google.
AOL really does suck, and it's going to suck more. I'll be gone as soon as
I've finished moving my house, and have established a new ISP.
Cheers,
PB
It seems to me that you can do a Google search on newsgroups and get to this
one. It's another step, but still works.

CBILLS, you do know that rec.bicycles.* is not an AOL newsgroup,
right? It is part of Usenet, which has been around twice as long as
AOL. There are news servers all over the world, which can be
accessed for free or for a small fee. AOL, in its continuing quest
to be the dumbest ISP in the world, is apparently going to turn off
its news servers and leave its customers out of the loop as far as
Usenet is concerned.
You'll need a newsreader application (see www.newsreaders.com which
has links for just about every known newsreader for just about every
common platform) and a news server to connect to. Google can help
you identify free or low-cost news servers very quickly.
Although not as convenient to use, you can access the newsgroups through
Google. Just go to
http://groups-beta.google.com/group/rec.bicycles.marketplace and you can
continue reading this newsgroup. You may have to create a Google account to
post via their service

It doesn't have to be complicated or expensive. Dump AOL, they are way
overpriced anyway, and find an ISP that supports newsgroups. The money you
save you can use to buy more bike goodies.
