Quoted message said:so i was looking at the deore set but ive heard good things about the
Vuelta
Quoted message said:wheelsets. Basically i want a cheap set of wheels that are durable and lightweight and can take a
few hits every now and then. Right now im
riding
Quoted message said:Synchros Big Box and theyre a bit heavy but very durable ive only broke 1 spoke and ive trued them
twice in 650 miles.
BTW: The items below are all available at eDiscountBike.com.

These look like a fine set of XC wheels. I wouldn't "go big" on these rims if I were you. They're
not made for that; but for normal riding, they should be very nice. Consider that just *one* Mavic
X221 rim retails for about what you're paying for the whole wheelset. Don't forget to stress relieve
and true/tension them before riding. These aren't hand-built wheels, AFAICT.

$119 $19 S&H
Spec's Deep section Vuelta XRP rims with brake wear indicator Shimano 8 or 9 speed compatable 24

Wheelset weight 5 lbs 100 mm front / 135 mm rear hubs standard
Note: This wheel set will not work with disc brakes. Retail on this wheel set is $299.99
These are some heavy wheels. 24 spokes doesn't sound too strong to me. No idea how they'll hold up
to abuse; but I wouldn't bet on them lasting very long. They're kinda neither/nor: Not enough spokes
to be really strong, and not light enough to justify the low spoke count. I'd pass on 'em.

caliper ,2 bolt sets and manual. $49 $7.99 S&H
Ok, these I actually own and ride. I have the rear Grimeca disc on my disc MTB, and it works
great. No problems. It squealed a little at first, but once it bedded in, things quieted down. I
had problems with the front caliper (which is *identical* to the rear caliper) because the
caliper position adjuster was actually hitting the spokes (!). Tom at eDiscountBike.com sent me
another caliper, and it had the same problem. He said I could send them back if I couldn't make
them work for me. They have excellent customer service. Tom responded very quickly, and was
polite and helpful.
I thought about sending the brakes back to eDiscountBike.com; but instead I whipped out the ol'
bench grinder and ground the adjuster screw down about 2 or 3 mm - et voila! No more spoke
interference. I haven't tried the front Grimeca disc yet (need another set of disc wheels...); but
I'm planning to put a set of 'em on my Ti hardtail to try 'em out. I also ride Avid CPS mechanical
discs, and they're better brakes; but not *that* much better. The Grimeca's are heavier, not as
nicely machined, and a tad clumsier to adjust; but they work fine (at least the rear one has). The
sintered metallic pads really get you slowed down in a hurry (but they do make some grinding noise).
Actually, the Grimeca discs squeal *less* then my Avid's, FWIW. I'd still take the Avid's over the
Grimeca's any day; but for $50/set (about $100 less than Avids), they're a good deal. Be ready to
grind off a few mm of the adjuster screw if needed, and you should have no problems.
