  1. Last week i had a bike fit done. They made some interesting changes. Seat lowered 1 cm. Cleats moved back 1 cm. and stem lengthened from 100mm to 120mm. Although I never felt cramped they said I was. I will be interested to see what they changes feel like when the weather gets good enough to ride.

my question for this oh so professional group of riders is...have you had a bike fit done and what changes did you notice?😕

    thanks for your input

  2. I just had a bike fit done two days ago. My saddle height and position was perfect so no changes made there. They straightened the cleat on one shoe, flipped my stem and say that after I get used to the lowered position that I should put the spacers on the top to get a little lower still - I also might think about a shorter stem after I see how lowering the handlebars affects me. They also rotated my handlebars down further to make riding in the drops more comfortable. This has also given me a flatter positon on the hoods. I've only been on the trainer since the changes were made so I can't tell yet how its going to affect me yet, but I am looking forward to a longer ride this weekend. One thing that I have noticed is that I've much less tension in my neck and shoulders now (a bit conterintuitive eh?) than when my handlebars were higher. I think that it is now almost impossible to unconsiously hunch my shoulders and that is what is helping.

Yes, I did. I'm not a profesional rider; I'm a strong recreational, and older rider. For these reasons I had read a bit and learned that a good fitter will make a big difference in bike riding comfort and ergonomics. It did so for me. I switched from a production bike that was fit for me to a full custom one which had my weight centered between the wheels as it should be and I noticed a good difference. I could ride a couple of MPH faster but more importantly I was able to ride at least an half hour longer with the same comfort level I had at the end of a normal two-hour fast ride on my old bike. Bike handling geomotry was different between both bikes so I can't tell what effect custom fitting had to do with it.

Being that I ride sometimes for long distances I found that it takes a long time to reach a point where some parts of my body would start hurting. Having the right fit on a bike lessens stresses and makes long rides more comfortable. I know, from riding for years that I never figured out on my own, the best position for my seat height and setback nor stem length. The fitter did so with measurements of my body parts, core strength and flexibility. It is such a good investment, in my opinion that my wife and son both also got fittings which made a difference for them. I'm now a firm believer that getting a professional fitting from a competent and expert bike fitter is worth every penny you spend. Besides, most fitters will apply the cost to the purchase of a bike so you end up getting it for free if you are in the market for a new bike.

  4. Had one in 1992. One of the best investments I ever made.

  5. gave the bike fit it's inaugural run today. Me and about 120 of my closest friends went for a 30 miles ride. It was weird feeling as stretched out as I was. I did like haveing the cleats moved back i did feel more power from that. It was a ride, not a race, and I was able to stay with the lead pack this time. I think as I get more used to the changes it will pay even more.

  6. I had a fit done before and after I bought my bike. After I chose the bike I wanted, I got a body scan that took a few different measurements and predicted the best frame size and positions of things like the seat, stem, and bars for maximum comfort and power output. Once I built the bike up, I was put on a trainer and the measurements were double checked and a few slight adjustments were made to the computer's predictions. The shop I work at does bike fits for free if you're buying the bike from us. If you are getting/got a bike from somewhere else it is a $75 service.

  7. My wife and I had bike fits done last October. For me: raised saddle considerably, moved saddle forward, lowered the bars by 1cm, moved cleats back. I had the fitting on my then only bike and as a basis for a custom bike. Could not be happier with the results. The custom bike built to the fitter's specs. is absolutly awesome and spot on.

My wife hated the fit on the trainer. Then felt great on the road.

Both road better and more comfortably following the fit despite being placed in more aggressive postions. We're mid 40ish recreational riders.

  8. when i bought my first road bike the "fitting" involved the guys at the shop flipping the stem over. They sold me a frame that was definitely too small, but not knowing what i was doing i thought it was fine. After a while i started to get wierd knee pains so i tried to adjust things myself. that still didn't work, so i sold the bike and bought another one and had it professionally fit. It took me all of a day and a half to get used to the new setup. The biggest thing i noticed was that the handlebar width fit me perfectly, it changed my hand position, which changed things the entire way up my arm. I felt a little stretched out at first, as if i was having to reach for the handlebars. Once i got used to that it made all the difference in the world. Now my knees don't hurt.
