I doubt I'll be you mentor but there are a number of us here from
NJ. I lead rides out of Jamesburg on Saturday mornings, avg speed 17
mph, avg distance is now down to 40 - 55 miles). I tend to go long.
I'll also be riding with another group on Sunday mornings out of
Cranberry.

There are a number of clubs that you can join that cover the range of
speeds and distances.

I will try that....if I can figure out were nyc.bicycles is......I'm
really working on trying to find someone to ride with me. I'm going to
the opera next weekend. Maybe I will ride my bike and park it in front

Do check out the bike clubs. I belong to the Bicycle Touring Club of North
Jersey (BTCNJ). The have a web site here: http://www.btcnj.com/. I don't
do very many of the club rides since they are mostly north of where I live
which is central Jersey, but there are many scheduled rides at all ability
levels. The ride schedule is now online. Check it out under the "rides"
link.

I think maybe I will just ride my bicycle through the park and not
worry about how many miles or what speed. I'm looking for exercise
and fun. I think the Social Bicycles newsgroup is probably a better
newsgroup for someone like me. My boss gets back from vacation next
week and I probably won't be posting as much anyway. (everyone
cheers)...happy trails.

Thanks for the link. There are some rides that start in Montclair at
Brookdale Park. That is the park where I ride on the weekend. It has
always been my favorite park for trying out new adventures. They have
a track there where I used to walk. My girlfriend and I tried to learn
to roller blade when we were in our 40's in that park. (That was a
fiasco)...and I also took tennis lessons there....I just have to work
up to being able to ride the distances they ride. I think I might die
a slow painful death if I try to ride 20 miles. But thanks for this
information. That is one great park.

My advice is to ride by yourself. That way you don't have anyone else
to keep up with.
