  1. I just re-started cycling this season. It has been a while. I am wanting
to do triathlons, but have discovered that I really like cycling the best.
I rode 55 miles Saturday and 30 today and it was just great. I find myself
not wanting to get off my bicycle. I am reading a local fitness magazine to
see what rides are coming up. Signed up for Peddle Pittsburgh (60 miles)
and the MS 150 in June. I am so glad I rediscoved cycling and love to
explore on a bicycle. I have not ridden in a group for years and am looking
forward to riding in a pack. Hope people are friendly.

Just wondered if anyone else wants to stay on their bicycle all the time?

When I'm not on my bike, I'm thinking about the next time I will be....

Good progress, Curt....are you doing all that in LC?

Hey Roger. I took a 40 mile ride which was very hilly on low carb a while
back and found that it wasn't a good idea to be honest. I add some carbs
when I take a longer ride. Eat a banana or some wheat based something. I
had a piece of pizza and mid way a Cliff bar on the 55 mile ride. I may try
a ride or two low carb when I get stronger on the bike. I run on LC and it
isn't a problem, but I am only running 3 miles and maybe a swim or lift.
Taking longer ride on my bicycle seems to take more out of me and I hit a
wall. I got dizzy on the 40 mile and felt that was over-the-top.

    Enjoy,
    Curt

All of my long rides seem to take a lot out of me if I don't add carbs
before had. However, luckily, I don't get strange until AFTER the rides,
not during like you're reporting. That would really scare me -- to be 20+
plus out and then to get dizzy or weak. I don't carry food with me on my
rides -- yet. I've only done 42 miles max so far...

Put me in that category. I feel pretty awkward on my feet, and can't stand
sitting in a chair for very long. But put me on a bicycle and life suddenly
works the way it ought to. Isn't it amazing that a skinny little bike seat
can be so much more comfortable than a high-quality desk chair?

I feel the same way, always looking for the next chance to get out and
ride. I honestly feel that it must be some type of addiction because I
often ride to the point of exhaustion but I just can't wait to get back
on the bike again for the next ride. I suspect that this is an addiction
to Endorphin's (runners high) but I'm not entirely sure if it can
technically be considered an addiction since I can still function
    normally when I'm not riding.

I am not into selling anything, just looking forward to a ride with some

    something.

I've been following the thread, but it's still not clear to me. Are you
saying you don't want to get off the bike b/c of the way it makes you feel
to be in an aerobic state, or just that it's too much fun to stop?

What does the state feel like to you?

In my jogging days, after about 2 years of fairly regular, but still
intermittent running, I reached this state where I liked being in the
'zone' so much that I just started feeling I wanted to live life at
    7min/mile. ;-)

The problem with doing that is usually overuse injuries.

Thankfully biking has less of this, but is not entirely free.

    Quoted message said:

I go through phases. I like being on the bike, but at times I think 'can't
wait until this (ride) is over'. Then later 'gee, that went by quickly'.

But I'm trying to get into a zone where I do want to be on the bike all the
time, and I work towards this feeling. I watch adventure racing vids, think
about riding when I'm not. And lately I've been experimenting with night
    riding.

Only problem I'm having now is with numb-butt-itis, which I get at about
the 10 mile point, despite all the shifting around in the saddle. My
longest ride so far has only been about 15 miles, and it's distressing,
since my legs are still ready to go. I'm trying to get it into my head that
it's ok to stop for five minutes and let the circulation repair and then go
again, but for some reason when I stop, that's it until the next ride of
the day (usually in about 4 hours).

On a positive note, this is my fourth week of 100 miles plus for the week,
and I've been routinely getting in two and three-a-day rides.

Easy solution: just ride more than 15 miles from where you start. Then get
off for 5 minutes. You'll have no choice but to ride at least 15 miles to
    get back 🙂

Do you occasionally stand to pedal? I've found that even just a few
strokes of standing pedaling every few minutes makes a big difference on
this. If your route had lots of small hills, just stand to climb a few
of them, instead of spinning up all of them can do this for you as well.

Um, yeah. For some reason I guess I think it's not a 'valid' ride if you
stop or something. Workin' on it, psychologically, though, heh. ;-)
Unfortunately my route is only a three mile oval. I'm not able to ride on
    the street (minor hip injury).

I'd love to be able to do that much time, and I'm not in bad shape, but at
one hour I start seeing stars/spots, and my triceps is starting to
shake/spasm, the the butt is aching. The legs are fine and ready to
continue, and the lungs are great. Believe me I push myself, and each ride
I try and 'top' the previous, either increasing speed, or distance.

Might be my best solution to get off the MTN bike and knobbies and get a
    hybrid, and a better 'fit'.

OK, I'll try that. In the past, yeah, I've purposely remained seated

shot - there are lots of small hills.

    Thx.

Keep in mind that for butt soreness, just standing from time to time will
help. You don't need to pedal -- just stand while coasting....I do this on
flat ground, down hill (not going too fast) and even uphill (though I find
standing to pedal uphill to be harder -- but I weigh 235 lbs).

And standing to pedal is definitely not cheating in my book.

The butt problem can be addressed easily. Learn to shift positions on the
    saddle and stand occasionally.

As for seeing stars/spots, and triceps shaking/spasming, I don't have an
idea about that. I seem to recall you stating a while ago that you weight
train....so I don't know why you'd be having problems with your triceps,

A roadie would be better (since you already have a mtn bike) and getting fit
correctly is a must, imo (not based on a whole lot of experience, mind you).
