Anyone done a home paint job?

I don't have photos of the Lotus, it is in storage for the winter. Instead of rattle cans, I have had better luck with a small pnuematic paint gun and paint purchased at a Dupont Store on my other home paint jobs, but these mainly were just touch-ups of the original paint. The Lotus needed a full paint job on the stays. I think the former owner tried to ride it for a long time with the chain off the cassette.

Use auto paint; Dupont or PPG. Use a Preval Spray Gun. It's like a rattle can (two pieces; paint reservoir and disposable atomizer can) but you can customize the type of paint...

Aerosols are never as robust as factory finish. I chose a metallic colour and sprayed a final lacquer on the frame. It looks brilliant to begin with, but still chips easily.

Several companies specialise in providing a frame spaying service. If it's a valuable frame, then probably worth it.

Yeah, I just finished with a custom job on a steel mountain bike frame... no good reason, I could have bought a new one,, it's not a good frame.

I just used car paint rattle cans... turned out looking very nice, but it's still soft after a month of drying. and chips easily. If I were fixing up a valuable bike I'd use something better.

i did once straight ahead with brushes and common hause paint i think... i added a couple of extra kilograms to the frameset !

I redid a 1970s steel road bike that was all rusted out and it turned out great. I used top of the line rattle cans specifically designed for painting metal and then put 3 coats of clear gloss Krylon 1311 on it. Looks awesome, wish I had some pics for you, but its also in storage.
