I'm designing a flyer for the guy who bought the store down the street. I'm a Unix person, not a MS Word person. And no, I don't have any desktop publishing software, sorry. I'm working with a template which has a text-box border down the left side and I'd like to insert some clip-art of produce - bananas, tomatoes, melons, since the store sells these things (in season). Try as I might, I can't get the clip-art to fit in the left border box; it keeps keep running under the text in the main box which features store info and the Monday-Friday hot lunch menu. This is getting frustrating. Any suggestions? Thanks!

For each picture you want to put into the border, create a separate text box and position it inside the border where you want it. Then insert the picture into that text box.

Jill, if you right click on the picture, you can change the formatting of the text for it and it also allows you to position the picture anywhere on the page. Then just create a text box under the picture.
Jill, Have you tried resizing the pictures ? Usually you can shrink an image a bit without it looking too bad. If you dont have a program that does this very well, then GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free download and works on both Windows and Unix. Go to www.gimp.org to get it or read about it.
Other than that, you can also increase the size of the margin so the text doesn't start until after the image. Also, templates can be frustrating. Many times it is faster to do it yourself unless the template is very close to what you want. Also note that many templates use "tables" to keep things in place. Turn on the tables toolbar (Tools->Customize->check the box for tables and borders).

Click on the picture to highlight it then put your cursor on the lower right-hand corner of the clip art. then click and drag moving the cursor in a diagonal motion - the corners will resize both the vertical and horizontal together the top and side button will resize just the H or the V. You can also click and drag the whole picture.

Select your jpg Right Click > Format Picture > Layout > In Front of Text resize clip-art as necessary.
