  1. Any freemasons among us might be intrigued to know who has plugged the
gap left by the withdrawal of Nationwide's support from our favourite
helmet pushers: the Freemasons' Grand Charity, supporting them to the
tune of £22,000 - about half the annual staff budget.

Nationwide withdrew support after a number of customers expressed
concern at BeHIT's political activities, and their apparent
deficiencies in the accuracy department. Are the Masons any less
    scrupulous? I suspect not...

All this from the accounts, which of course are a public record, so
anyone who wants a copy can mail me.

I sense a great conspiracy theory coming on! How about: that's why helmets
are being pushed so much by politicians, the masons have financial interests
in the manufacture? No, far to obvious.

    Must read "Foucault's Pendulum" again.

Using the high-powered research tools available to me, I've discovered
that the very land my very own bike storage area stands on was once
owned by the Knights Templar. Also, some situationalist wibble about
driving motor cars around at high speed much to the consternation of
    locals: <URL:http://www.unpopular.demon.co.uk/lpa/elpan002/002oxford.html>.
So that's the plan they're furthering. Of course.

    Tinfoil helmuts anyone?

Drat. Now I want to re-read the Illuminatus! trilogy. Or at least plan a
night ride based on that silly triangulation gimmick.

If this is concerned with the underground tunnels in Hertford, we have
already had an anonymous veiled warning not to go exploring them. BTW is the
DaVinci code just a re-hash of Holy Blood/Holy Grail?

    Et in Arcadia Ego!

  7. Hi Guy,

Make sure Carlton Reid at the BikeBiz site knows about this, if you
    havn't already...

By the way, did you ever get the full reference for the quote used in
the Marlew debate regarding the High Court case where it was accepted
that it cannot be unreservedly accepted that a cycle helmet can reduce
the severity of injuries even when the impcat load is within the
design criteria of that helmet? If so could you post it here or E-mail
a copy to me. I would also appreciate a copy of the Mason's financial
    return if possible.

    Regards,

    Howard.

P.s I once 'crossed swords' with an alleged Mason when I worked as a
local authority traffic enginer. He was the senior lighting engineer
and was trying (behind my back) to actually have a cycle facility in
Goole removed, something that would have greatly increased the danger
cyclists faced. He told me his motivation was that he didn't belive in
cycle facilities as they encouraged cyclists to be 'arrogant' and to
believe they had a right to be on the road.

This person later volunteered to act as 'prosecuting officer' for the
management when they brought disciplinary action against me for daring
to put the interests of cyclists before my 'loyalty' to the
    car-centric half-wits in senior management...

What? I thought that charitable giving was pretty much the Mason's
primary activity these days. What is freemasonry about then, if Guy's
got it wrong - don't tell me all that secret handshake dodgy deals
    stuff still goes on.

You mean the Freemasons charitable works don't include the money to BeHIT ?

Why not, instead of just saying someone "has no idea what freemasonry is
about", tell us what Freemasonry actually _is_ about then. 'cos the basic
idea to many people is that Freemasons are simply a bunch of dimwits in
business who feather each others nests mostly by indulging dubious sexual
practices and ritualistic, almost religious, secret meetings.

Are you saying they haven't given any money to BeHIT?

The implication of your posting is that they don't ever give money to
charities (since Guy reported that they gave money to a charity and
your responmse was that this indicated ignorance of what freemasonry
was about). What do they do? Presumably you're saying that the funny
handshakes, dodgy trouser leg stuff really is the only thing they get
    up to.
