  1. gday,
ive kinda hurt my knee a bit while doing some rides in the hills..
the pain feels like its coming from the top left hand corner of the knee cap
and if i rest my hand on the knee and move the leg, it feels like stuff is
    rubbing together in there
The pain was really bad a month ago when i was riding (to the point where it
hurt to walk). It's less now but is still there constantly while riding, so
i figure i should get it checked out..

My knee was rebuilt by Stephen McMahen (Orthopod), but before you
go see an orthopod, you may want to see a good physio. Emma Colson
is supposed to be very good, but I've not actually had anything to
do with her save to hear reports from some of my riders.

Not a last resort, but used where appropriate. If you've got
busted bits in there, then surgery may be the best fix for it.
If you've got some technique or positioning problem causing the
pain, then good fit, high cadence and physio may be the better
    option.

Orthopods lean towards slicing and dicing in giving advice - there can sometimes be alternatives that they are a bit blind to. However Orthopods can order an MRI on you knee and you will get the Medicare rebate (MRI's cost $400 plus usually go getting about $340 back from Medicare is not a bad thing.

If a GP orders the MRI, you pay the full whack.

Sports physicians are generally not recognised as specialists for the purpose of ordering MRIs and you will pay the full whack. (some get their specialist mates to co-sign the MRI referral and you will then get the Medicare rebate)

If you have a mate who is a medical specialist of any type they can refer you to a Medicare rebatable MRI, eg an Obs & Gynae specialist can order an MRI on your knee and you will get the Medicare rebate.

simple things first, get it checked by a sports physio, get your bike and cleat position fixed.

How'd you go with this? Any luck with a good physio etc?
