I'm an injured elite(ish) runner, 14.00 5k, 3.42 1500m. I've been training on the watt bike everyday for 4 weeks, stuff like...20k (2930), 2 x 10k (14.45,14.30)....I try to do something hard everyday rather than just plodding along...longest ride is 30k in 45.30....anyway I performed a 3 min test today and averaged 377 watts, weight is 66kg, my question is - is that any good?
Wow, I am not sure if it is excellent as far as industry standards go, however, I think it is quite impressive. I have only just now begun training on the stationary bike at the gym. I have my reasons. After all it is air conditioned and I am on level ground. I have not done more than 30 minutes per work out just yet. I know I am out of shape and need to build it up. I am trying to take a few lessons from what I read here.
5k, if the Wattbike's watts and speeds are to be believed then yeah you're on the right track. Get out on some group rides and attack on some longish climbs not many riders short of pretty good masters and amateur racers will be ahead of you.
Just started back light jogging but will keep the wattbike going - improving all the time and I'm sure it will help with my return to running, although I will have to pull back on the effort as I'm doing something pretty hard most days.
Some of the recent sessions/rides:
30k ride on Saturday in 44:22 3 x 10 mins off 3 recovery (270, 287, 301 average watts per rep) 20k ride in 28:58 10k ride in 13:58
I've have been told to do the 20 min test to see what watts I can hold.
I'd say that's not too bad at all, really getting up to speed again.I cracked an ankle a few years back and it nearly killed my motivation, but I know most stick with it through worse than that.
