Stella is 5.2% alcohol by volume, and while not up there with the 7% - 9% Chimays and double bocks,
its not an unrespectable brew. I'm currently exploring the world of German double bocks (optimator,
dominator etc.). Great stuff. Opening an Optimator Spaten right now.

My first exposure to Stella was in a restaurant in Geneva, later I found it everywhere in Belgium,
including the Pizza Hut in Brugge. Couldn't stand it, not ever being spoiled on german beers, but to
each their own. I mostly drink Pilsner Urquell, with Guiness or a porter for cold rainy days.

our Pils (or 'lager'😉 is generally of the refreshment kind, I agree the taste is nothing special.
But everyone just seems to like what they grow up with, everyone prefers Jupiler or Maes (actually
Stella is a lesser one among them) above foreign brews.

On the other hand it's criminal when visiting Belgium to stick to such [censored] water and don't try the
quality beers.

On a blustery winter day, I was strolling along the old river and admiring the windmills of
Brugge. Hunger came calling and I spotted a small inn with the daily specialty of an Appel Taart
(sp?) and stepped
in. Asking the locals, all of whome spoke english better than I, which would be a fine beverage to
accompany the snack, the unanimous reply was "Witbier", De Gouden Boom was on tap. I find it in
US specialty stores, but rarely as good as it was on tap in Brugge (which seems to apply to
pretty much all imported beers, their better at home.)

One of these days I'm going to get back over to europe with my bicycle and go from town to town
sampling the local beers and ales.

This after Pilsner Urquell ditched their old wooden vats for shiney new metallic ones which leave a
metal taste in your mouth? All for what? So you can now find it in any store in the US?

Exactly, why would I drink Stella? We can get that here! I'd try the ones you can't find in
this country.
