  1. Not possible, save as greyed out.

Interestingly Anquet have been asked the same question and
no response has been made. If it is not possible to do this
then the gps side of Anquet is a total waste of time.

OK - import the tracklog - it appears as a "Path" -
    not a Route"

Pick the first waypoint, right click on it and go through
    the "New Route" process.

    Give your route a name

    Then do File....Save as

What's the problem? Is it just that the Trackloag is
imported as a Path and not a route? That's the best way as
    it can then be edited.

    A bit complicated.

Just import the tracklog, close the import screen, the
tracklog is now a path, click on it and from the file menu
    select Save as route.

  4. Thanks for that but not user friendly. Back to Oziexplorer.
Much better for working with a gps.

  7. Yes, I find Anquet not very user friendly. I now use UK
Fugawi - its covers much greater areas for the same price
but without the bells and whistles (altitude and 3D). great
    with my eTrex.

I've used Anquet, GPSU and Memory Map, they're all good to a
point, some of the bells and whistles are a bonus, I'm still
playing with the 3D view on the new MM. As long as what I'm
looking at on the screen transfers to my GPS for use on the
hill accurately I'm happy. Any long time GPS users (I'm a
mere 12 months so far) care to comment on initial GPS
availability and associated software, i.e. choice, cost etc?

I'm using Fugawi UK (south) and for a few days after I
bought it, I hated it. Now I've got used to it, I find it
excellent, but different from what I'm used to.

In the past I've always pulled waypoints together into a
route, but last Sunday I plotted-out a track with Fugawi and
sent this to the Geko to navigate with, by way of an
experiment. I was impressed, following the track on the Geko
was like following a map. Well, it *was* following a map, I
suppose. Not that there was much chance of getting lost,
mind, 14 km to Sonning and back along the Thames Path. A
pint of HSB in The Bull went down nicely.

I'm planning to give this way of navigating more of a test
on Friday, in the woods and on the hills of the Nettlebed,
    Stonor and Turville area.

    Regards, Nick.

I've done this a few times with OziExplorer, since I usually
measure a planned walk by plotting trackpoints, it is easy
to save it and upload to the GPS. I can also print a map
    with the trackover-laid, (or email
it), to a friend if I want to pass the route on to them.
They can use the route whether they have a GPS or not.

Interestingly Anquet have been asked the same question and
no response has been made. If it is not possible to do
this then the gps side of Anquet is a total waste of time.

Hold on, that's a bit strong. It may be a waste of time *for
you* and in your opinion, and for some other people who use
the Anquet/GPS combination in the same way as you.
Personally I have never encountered the problem because of
the way I use my GPS.

The latest version of Anquet is very good IMHO, and I
have little if no trouble with the interface. I have also
found the customer and technical support to be very good
when I had problems. They also rapidly included a feature
request of mine into a release, so you could say that I
am a bit of a fan.

I have had a play with MM and Oziexplorer, but have yet to
see Fugawi. I found MM to be quite nice, although the
interface to me was slightly strange (as a software engineer
I am quite good at telling good and bad interfaces). I find
the Oziexplorer interface horrible - although the version I
looked at was a couple of years ago, so it may have improved
in later versions. Anquet may not be perfect, but it is
    still a very nice package.

    All IMHO, Regards, .David.

I agree. I think Anquet is excellent and I never even use
it with my GPS, that's not what I bought it for. It didn't
even have GPS support when I bought it. I bought it as a
route planning program and for the cheap mapping, with the
ability to print map sections as required. The GPS option
was a bonus, but I never use it because Ozi does GPS so
much better. The 3D option is a major bonus for me (to help
plan photos) and I would have bought it for that if I
    hadn't already.

Some aspects of the interface are probably a little strange
if you aren't used to them, but you get used to it. I find
it very easy to use on the whole, although the track editing
    keyboard shortcuts are somewhat confusing.

The whole shebang with track editing is confusing. You

It drove me mad initially, too. Now I realise that with
multiple tracks all open, displayed etc, it's an essential
safety feature to prevent accidentally messing up eg. the
track in slot 75 without noticing. There is an option to pop
a particular track into slot 1 without laboriously moving it
up one by one, and sort tracks by name etc. A button with
'+v' on, to the right of the big up/down arrow buttons on
the 'track control' panel. NALOPKT !

Anquet had their latest incarnation on display at the
Outdoors Show too. Overlay of aeriel photography on the 3D
landscape. The guy on the stand said they were thinking
about releasing this a while ago, but decided there was no
point until they had 3D mapping. You still have to own a
mapping product and then sit the aeriel product on top of
this. Guide price was about £40 per area. Looked really
nice, but not sure if it's worth the money. Probably better
off just going for walk and seeing it for yourself 😉

Per area? I want the whole of southern UK, same as the map
    area I've got.

Definitely worth the money, at least for those who find the
3D useful like myself. As I've seen with the MM demo, you
get a far better visualisation of the scenery with photos
    rather than maps.

    Quoted message said:

Better, yes, easier, no. Besides, I need it for planning
before the walks. It'll save a lot of legwork.

As I saw in the MM demo, the aerial photography can show
things that aren't shown on the maps, like the state of
the ground for example, whether it's covered with heather
or bracken or not. These kinds of things aren't at all
    obvious on maps.

The way I understood it you could buy the aeriel package for
the 1:50k Peak District area for £40 and this would include
the Yorks Dales and North Yorks Moors, but if you had the
1:25K Peaks you wouldn't get the Yorks areas, that would be
    another £40.

You may be able to get the aeriel product for the whole of
GB South, but I'm guessing that this would be more £'s. I
currently own the 1:50K Peaks and Lakes, if I decided to
upgrade to the 1:25K for the same areas (including Yorks) I
would be looking at 3 x £80 for the maps and 3 x £40 for the
aeriels, total of £360, all in all it adds up to quite a bit
of money (in fact too much IMHO!).

Mmmm, not entirely convinced that the quality was that good
on Anquet, I didn't give it that much attention. I believe
they had a demo CD available at the Outdoors Show, might be
worth giving them a shout to see if they'll give you a copy
to look at before committing any cash?

Yes, far too much. Much as I'd like the 25k mapping I'm not
planning to spend those sort of prices and hopefully few
other people will either. This may force them to revise
their pricing policy (but knowing the OS it's probably them
