  1. Can anyone please tell me whether the old version of the Anquet 1:50k
GB North is likely to be significantly different, in terms of actual
mapping, from the new one? There are a couple of places where it's
currently possible to get the old version for about £90 (rather than
£120) but I don't want to save £30 if it means I'm buying out of date
    info.

Part of the reason I'm a little confused is because when I went to the
Anquet site, and looked through the News items, I saw the advent of
the new Harvey maps announced as featuring new Harvey mapping. In
contrast, the introduction of the new 1:50k series refers to the new
software (including virtual landscape) but doesn't mention new
mapping. I know the s/ware can be updated online, so it's not an
issue. New mapping would be, though, if extensive.

    Does anyone know?

    Thanks!

Probably not. Maps don't change much, especially not the wild stuff.
Most map changes are minor updates to things like new roads and new
housing estates, not particularly important for a walker. More relevant
may be the spreading of more purple plaque and more big green dots
(extensions to the national cycle network) which may be useful.

Unless you need the very latest purple areas and green dots, I'd say get
the old one (my old one has plenty of green dots).

I bought the old version for about 80 quid a few weeks ago. All you have to
do then is register with the Anquet web site and you then upgrade free to
the latest version. The unlock sequence you have to follow is a little
tricky but then it's done. Until you upgrade the biggest difference is you
    wont have virtual landscape

Do you know if there's any difference in the actual mapping between
the old one and the new one, though? It's not clear to me whether
they/the OS have actually revised the maps.

    Many thanks!

The difference is that the old version uses 2002 Copyright OS data and
the new version uses 2004 Copyright OS data. The biggest differences are
likely to be with regard to roads and to urban areas, where any data
the OS has added or altered since 2002 will be missing from the older
versions. There will also be some differences to other ROWs such as
relocated footpaths and bridleways. The OS is continually updating their
digital data to take account of road construction, building construction
and designation of rights of access.

I don't know Peewiglet. I upgrade as soon as I'd installed the old version
so didn't really look too closely.

All you upgraded was the Anquet software for viewing the data files. The
upgrade does not do anything to alter the digital OS mapping data. Thus
you most likely have OS copyright 2002 map data rather than 2004 data.
For most wilderness areas their will be little difference. Your more
likely to see differences if you compare areas where you know that there
have been newly built roads and areas of new housing or industrial
    construction.

Are you sure? If I print off a map it says "Crown copyright and/or database

Bob, of what and to whom are you asking your question? You've requoted
absolutely everything in the preceding posts and its impossible to
make sense of where your question lies. Might be a bit easier if you
(re)quoted only the sections appropriate to your reply/ question.

Sorry, I was asking Mike if he was sure about his point on the map data
being 2002. As I say when I print a map it says as I quoted earlier.

Yes I am absolutely sure that the mapping data itself is not upgraded
when you upgrade to the latest version of Anquet by downloading the
    upgrade file from the website.

For example you can run Anquet off of the CDs and without installing the
data on your hard disk. If you do this you will not find any new mapping
data on your hard disk if you upgrade to the latest version of the
Anquet software and it will require you to insert the original CDs
    whenever you display a map.

All I can say Peewiglet is that I bought version 1.0 about 4 weeks ago from
Snow and Rock for 84 quid. It didn't have the virtual landscape when I
bought it, that option did not appear in the view menu until I upgraded it
but does now and it's really good. It shows the 2004 copyright message as I
said earlier. It has upgraded to version 1.2.17

Mine has *2002, 2004* on it, with virtual landscape. Bought it in April this
year in Keswick. Delivered to the shop by Anquet the previous day.
