According to this site it is also reported in Sud Ouest, which go on to say it was one of the jersey wearers.

Looks like Sud Ouest were the source for this news last night, taken over by others this morning. Looked though their website today, and couldn't find anything, so I guess they might have been asked, or decided to take it away.

Anyone's got Ressiot's phone number? If anyone knows, he's the man !

  2. The gazzetta dello sport website cycling page has picked it up and is reporting it also... a jersey wearer was doped, or so goes the rumour. Which means: the Chicken, Contador, Boonen, or Soler following doping controls on the jersey riders on Sunday.

La Gazzetta says it was in the La Provence online edition that reported it initially.

Would that mean that all reports of this are based on one rumor spread by one news outlet, or have newspapers such as La Gazzetta their own moles to confirm such a story? It would be nice to know how much truth is in this. There's been more time between this rumor first spreading and now than between the previous rumor surfacing and confirmation that Moreni was doped. Also, as I said in my previous post, the type of rumor is different, too. The substance is not specified this time, but who might have been caught is narrowed down quite a bit.

Het zou gaan om Mauricio Soler, de drager van de bolletjestrui. Op dit moment is er een inval van de Franse politie in het hotel van Barloworld aan de gang melden onze Deense collega's van BT. Maar dat konden we niet bevestigd krijgen.

It supposedly concerns Mauricio Soler, the current wearer of the mountain king jersey. At the moment the French police are conducting a raid in the Barloworld hotel according to our Danish coleagues from BT. But this is as of yet uncomfirmed.

Thus.. They are basiclly reporting what we are writing as well. Rumours strongly indicate that..

  7. Too bad for Barlow world. This would have been a great steeping stone for the rider and the team. I guess we know the top 3 a juiced for sure now.

  8. I love the fact that the paper seems to confirm the rumor by looking to the bookies.

Oh they would HAVE to be.....great logic in that statement....

Given that Moreni was doped, surely all riders on the GC down to wherever he was placed MUST be doped.

Sorry my friend, I simply have no idea how la Gazzettta operates, and whether they have their own moles or are repeating what other papers are spreading as a rumour... I am simply a reader... :o

14:39 Central European time: have been looking for clues on French Tour forums, the news is now circulating everywhere in the French press (not only Belgian one). They always talk of a "maillot distinctif", meaning it has to be either yellow jersey, or white, polkadot, maybe national???

So who were tested on stage 14?

Valverde (Caisse d'Epargne), Schleck (CSC), Verdugo (Euskaltel), Valjavec (Lampre), Le Mevel (Crédit Agricole) and Scheirlinckx (Cofidis), + Rasmussen (Maillot Jaune) and Contador (stage winner)

Maillot distinctif ---> rasmussen / Contador / maybe Valjavec (Slovenian champ)

Apparently confirmation will come this afternoon

Are you sure that only those guys were tested? Because if Soler wasn't tested then he would be VERY unlucky to get caught!🙂 Or is it so that the riders who currently wear the four jerseys are always tested after?

  12. Another positive...

What happened with this rumor? Wasn't there a press conference this morning? I think everybody is still in the race. So, no pos. tests after stage 14?

  13. 15:51 CEST
Yesterday there were a lot of rumours about Mauricio Soler having tested positive after stage 14. Several outlets had reported that the Barloworld hotel was raided as well. Well, as it turns out there was an Ag2r car parked in front of the Barloworld hotel. And those cars look apparently just like (French?) police cars. From there the whole thing self-accelerated, with German TV (ZDF) immediately going to the hotel. They have the resources, as they have set up a special team that just covers doping cases at the Tour. It's easier to staff for them now that they don't do any live broadcasts anymore. This was what the press conf this morning was mostly about, along with the ongoing ASO-UCI tug of war. Watch out for more coverage on the press conf in our next couple of news editions.

  14. It seems like the media loves and lives on doping stories.

How about the Swiss newspaper that said it was so disgusted by doping in Cycling, that it would not report on the TdF stages, only the days final results and DOPING stories.

In case you're not aware, the TDF gets widespread media coverage/publicity throughout Europe.
Media coverage includes editorial articles and interviews in a lot of cases.
This level of coverage has been curtailed by some organisations - even though nationals from these countries have a big input to this years TDF
