  1. Went to fit the 34 chainring to my bike today in preparation for the
Dales Audax on Saturday and maybe the URC Ron Kitchen ride at the York
    Rally.

Took the chain off (I was fitting a new one as well). Took both rings off.

Cranks quite happly stayed with the pedals horizontal instead of spinning
    freely like they should. hm.

So that'll be a new bottom bracket then as well. Still, does explain a bit
about why pedaling was such hard work. I thought I was just unfit!

Don't get me wrong, perl is an OK operating system, but it lacks a
lightweight scripting language -- Walter Dnes

Surely that's less annoyance and more happiness at the pleasure to come now
that your bike is going to be faster again?

There's always the fear that I'll get the BB sorted and then discover that
the extra .1 W doesn't make me go any faster though 🙂

34 instead of what ? Come on Arthur you are just trying to pyshc us out
    now.

    38. I normally run 38/48 12-25 and swap to 34/48 12-25 for major hills.
I just don't like triples that much and don't really need one round here
    anyway.

If some of us do do the longer Ron Kitchen ride then it goes up Rosedale
Chimney (or at least did last time I saw the route). Which is both an
incentive (since I've never ridden up it) and a reason for some low gears.

I have entered it so I'm there, it forms part of my plan. I am cycling
to the Show so I'll be on my Royal complete with low riders, SON hub
and rack. My lowest gear is evens, (28x28), maybe I'll be OK maybe not,
I am pretty fit at the moment though.

I very much like the 34/48 13-25 on my road bike. Gives that extra few
    gears for the worst hills.

Probably won't be up for that after the ride down but you never know..
What's another 150km after 400+? It shouldn't be a probelm to get up
there as my low gear would be 28x34 on the MTB unless I die of boredom
or old age.. And I thought it was Ron Kitching they were
    commemorating..

See how you feel on the day I suggest. I wasn't planning on actually
entering formally so I can see what people want to do on the Friday
    night.
