U from the UK originally? If you wanna capture the spirit....next time you have a good ride, at the end comment, "Well, what a thoroughly, bloody good ride, old bean! Damn good blast, what ho! I say, old chap, ripping fine day!" and so on.
-
Stung by a bee and given I'm 5 mins to the morgue allergic, it was fun.
Was hit by a deer and knocked off my bike.
Got my vengance on the animal realm by smacking a chipmunk....Oh brave hunter that I am.

I always get teased here because of my accent (no, they have the accent) and they know when I have some choice words to say about stuff when I am out - all done in the "best posible taste"! I will definately ring out those words when I am done! I will visit home for a week in about 1 month!

uum dogs number one ....the primary use of a frame pump is smacking dogs on the noggin if they are chasing/catching you..followed by beating on rednecks that egg you/throw out ciggy butts or mc donalds food containers, also as a bonus ,you can pump up tires with one!!

Back on-topic...this afternoon I inhaled an insect of some sort just after doing a hellish climb (my roomie and I call it "the [censored] climb", because...well, you get the idea)....so not only was I fighting to stay conscious after the insane sprint to the top, I had some 6-legged little bugger buzzing round in my pipes. If only I'd swallowed it, I would at least have benefited from the protein.
-
Love the mo-hawk daseeg! Sounds like I need to carry a few spare pumps with me for warding off unwanted passengers!
Oxford man .. the trouble starts when they try to get out .. do ya go for seconds or spit the [censored] out?!?!? Uekkkk hate when that happens. So far I have been lucky though summer season is on it's way - maybe I will have a good story to tell around the campo fire!
-
Well this is the thing, I would have responded in my usual way, i.e. try and flob the damn thing out, but that wasn't really on the cards because there was a rather fetching young lady perched atop a horse on the opposite side of the road....so I kept my manners (and the insect). I suppose it could have been worse, it could have been a bee or a wasp.
-
You crack me up .. flobbing is not the thing to do in front of horse riding young lady is it! I can understand your dilema - at least you were not in mid stream .. you wouldn't have got any points there would you?!?!?!?
-
Ha ha, I certainly wouldn't have! Besides, I save the "stream" for when someone tries to slipstream me on my commute 🙂

We used to have a frame pump, now we just have Co2. This is due to a turtle 'incident' that about taught me my lesson on 'being one with nature' and helping innocent creatures.
Last year, along about this time or maybe a little later in the spring, turtles and especially baby turtles were everywhere. My daughter particularly likes them and she'll slam on the brakes to move one off of the pavement so you learn quick not to draft her. She must have moved ten in the first part of turtle season, when we came upon the most humongous turtle you'd ever like to see outside of a zoo.
Helpful folks that we are, we went to shoo him off the pavement and back into the grass when he charged us! Who'da ever thunk turtles can jump? He apparently was a giant southern snapper and extremely aggressive. 'Course, common sense is hard to come by in my genetic tree, so we grabbed the frame pump and played a little game with the giant turtle, to get him off the road.
Don't have a frame pump anymore 🙁 Those snappers have JAWS......

I live in a part of DC known for its bars and nightlife (Adams Morgan, 18th and Columbia Rd for the locals). Unfortunately, this part of the city is rapidly becoming known for huge rats, too.
On my daily ride into work a few weeks ago, around six thirty AM, a rat ran out from between two parked cars and went directly between my tires (right underneath the bottom bracket as a I rode over). I had no chance to move. I hit him with the back wheel.
He made an awful squeak / squealing noise. I didn't stop to see if it did him in. There was definately a big bump up in the back, but the noise was the worst. I kept right on riding. I was so completely disgusted (and I was already running late for work).
Truly nasty stuff though.

Riding in Florida, I thought I'd seen it all:
1) Too many "I inhaled a bug" stories to relate here. My favorite was coughing one up the next day at the grocery store. Had to show it to my wife and re-count the whole story.
2) Butted by a goat that I startled.
3) Snapped at by an alligator - a little 5 footer I didn't see right along the apron of a small side road.
4) I have about 3 neighborhood dogs who, I swear, lay in their front yards waiting for me.
5) Forced by a car to run over a dead armadillo (2-3 days dead, August - very hot). When my tire hit the shell, the "soup" inside splashed up my right leg and thigh all the way up to my shoulder. Had to ride home with the funk about 6 inches from my nose.
6) Had a giant grasshopper fly up into my front spokes and got "blendered" - (I wore that one home too).
7) Several times I've been chased, scratched and pecked by a rooster.
-
Some good ones here. Mine are less exotic:
1. Have also partaked of fast food while cycling, courtesy of the insect realm. Be sure to follow with plenty of fluids.
2. Hit square between the eyes by something flying with armor plating. That one hurt more than the various stings. Few ricochets off the helmet too.
3. Rotweiller laying in ambush. One ride used to take me down a slight grade past a big farmhouse a rotweiller called home. He didnt like the idea at all so gave chase. Not a big deal until he figured out watching me go by and waiting for me to return to go up the grade was a better idea. That will teach you a bit of uphill sprinting.
4. Another farm dog laying in wait, although this one simply liked to run. Would run along side me and pace for the better part of a mile pretty much no matter what speed I went, with a pretty happy look on his face. I never tried particularly to lose him. I liked that dog. 🙂

I encountered a Tiger snake on an mtb trail here in Melbourne.
I was going too fast to fully stop so I tried to bunnyhop the
sucker. I'd washed off too much speed though and ran over it with my rear wheel. Stirred it up nicely for the two poor buggers
riding behind me - not a happy chappy!!! 😄Many bugs in the face of course. Into the eyes is the worst - some are quite tasty.
Ran over a chook once. It seemed okay so I carried on.
A small bird took off from the side of the road and flew straight into my front wheel.. DING DONG DING FLAP! It also appeared relatively okay, if a little drunk-looking, so I continued.
A few dog outruns.
Drivers are the worst animals I've had to deal with though.
I've seen plenty of cool animals while on the bike - wombats, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, all sorts of birds, etc...
