No doubt you will all be delighted to know that I'm on the ladder! I
went to E1 Cycles in Spitalfields as it's so near work, and they had a
2004 Falcon Adventurer for £140. Aluminium frame, mudguards, carrier,
no suspension forks.
Only thing I didn't like was the quick-release front wheel. I took it
for a spin and liked it. In the interests of comparison, I then took
out a Giant Cypress which was £160 (this year's model), and had no
mudguards or carrier.
There was nothing to choose between them, they were both easy enough to
ride, and felt of similar quality, so I plumped for the cheaper option,
and got a fiver knocked off.
I can store it at work and home for the moment and need to research
locks anyway, so I didn't get one. Ditto helmet. I'm not keen to ride
at night yet, so no lights either. Next thing is to book some lessons
and get a copy of Cyclecraft.
Thanks to all of you who gave advice. I'm sure I'll be posting a few
questions here and there, from now on.
