I just know the doctor is going to do a sigmoisoscopy. Had
one before. Terribly painful. Seems no one around here
just does the proctoscopy anymore.

You seem to have had lot of colon investigation for someone
in his early-thirties. What's up with that? (It may have a
bearing on your current issue...)

The rectum is the last 15 cm of the colon. It changes to
anus at the anal verge (point where colon lining changes to
skin). Rectal cancer always begins in the rectum lining.

A routine part of a colonoscopy is retroflexing the
colonoscope in the rectum (bending it around into a "J"😉.
This allows visualization of the lower rectum and upper
anus. It would be very unlikely that a cancer of the rectum
would be missed during a colonoscopy, and 5 months ago is
nothing in the typical time course for such cancers.

In a 30 year-old with a normal colonoscopy 5 months ago,
rectal cancer would be pretty far down the list. Far more
likely would be a hemorrhoid-related problem. Do see the
doctor, however.

No one does rigid proctoscopy any more because it is a
completely inferior examination.

The anal canal is lined with specialised skin, is about 3-
4" long and ends at the dentate line, where the rectal
mucosa begins.

Rectal cancer usually begins in the rectum, though sometimes
can grow down into the anus. Anal canal cancer also occurs,
whch can sometimes grow up into the rectum.

It's very unlikely to be cancer............but you should
have a sigmoidoscopy

I had the colonoscopy for severe constipation that began 2
years ago. I have also had before the colonoscopy a barium
enema without contrast.

i just got a little worried when I felt that lump. I have
not felt right lately and have been extremely tired and just
not feeling right. Since December I have had days when I get
a fever and feel like I am getting the flue. It is over in
24 hours. This seems to happen once a month.

I had the sigmoidoscopy 6 or so years ago for hemroid
problems.

I have to use a bag enema sometimes. This is when I felt
something was not right up there which necesitated the
"checking with finger."

Actually, now that it is May my colonoscopy was 6
months ago.

So the part that is circular and hard andfeels like it is
around a bone and does not move is the anal cannal? (I
assume the bone is the pelvis?)

It is a hard spot about the size of a dime. isn't the
prostate higher up and bigger? Where is it? Thanks for

Is the anal canal surrounded by bone. (Hard and does not
move like it is against the pelvis or something?)
