I haven't been following cycling that carefully this year. Watched PR,
but not so much. Why no lance in Amstel? He usually likes to race that.
I was also wondering why someone like Tom Boonen isn't going to be
racing. Other commentary on the start order would be
appreciated...Predictions too I guess.

I've registered for the 150.

Lance will be in the Tour of Georgia starting the 20th. Maybe if the
organizers of AG donated the proceeds to a cancer foundation, like TdG,
Lance would have put it on his schedule...

Plus, maybe he just got fed up of being an "also ran" in Amstel?

Unless he's riding the Trek Madone with a kiddie seat attached 🙂, I think
he'd have more time to spend with the kids by riding the 1 day AG rather
than the 7 stage TdG.

I see you majored in geography 🙂 But unless he flys back home to Texas
after each stage to be with the kids, and back to Georgia the next morning,
where he is, is irrelevant. How many days away from home he spends is the
thing. The real major change this year is not where he's racing, but where
he's training.

Off the top of my head, this year the European races he's in are Algarve,
Murcia, Criterium intl, Tour of Langeudoc-Rousillon, Dauphiné Liberé, TdF,
Olympics, (Worlds?), plus probably a few post-TdF $70K a pop appearances. I
don't think that's radically different than last year, other than
substituting the week in Georgia for AG and LBL.

Unless he has the kids in Georgia... ;\ I would love to hear how a Pro
defines "home" over the course of an 8 month (or longer season).

So WHY was he not at Georgia in 2003? They had the same cause

Armstrong announced his intentions to do six weeks in the US shortly
after his divorce was final in December. It is all about the children.
Georgia was just the lucky benefactor. He would have NEVER agreed to
just come back to the US for the race alone. They are quite fortunate
because of his misfortune. Normally, the children were 'home' with him
in Girona for 6 months.

He was due a scheduled break after the Belgian classics, and will
resume at the Tour of Belgium in May for a buildup for his Tour de
France buildup. The debut will have low expectations, which he may
easily exceed. Boonen may be a future green jersey candidate. He is
that good.
