  1. In case you haven't figured it out by now, AMB-ID rocked.

Paladin's trail choice was excellent. I was a bit worried on the first hill; the lack of oxygen went
directly to my head; I found myself gasping for air and taking a break only a short way up, and I
wondered "oh no..what _have_ I gotten myself into?" The first downhill cured me of that. >😄 Lots of
rollers (? those little 1-2' dips/hills) which are my favorite thing to ride right now.

Memorable moments: The short steep rocky section of trail that was like a chute--the rocks were
really smooth and it was like riding water.

The last "3 1/2 miles" of trail next to the river. (Sign said one thing, map said another, GPS said
something else...we don't know how long we rode!) I love that rolling up & down stuff and riding in
the shade right next to the river was very soothing.

Almost falling asleep in the sun by the lake.

Realizing I was going down in a switchback, a bunch of things ran through my head: "Oh no I'm going
down!!" "AIeee!" "I hope this doesn't hurt too bad!" "I knew I was going too fast." "[censored]!" "This is
just like what Spider was talking about...you think about the strangest things on the way down."
"Hey, I'm thinking all this stuff, why the heck can't I get a message to my arms & legs to pull me
    outta this situation!"

My drive back west was gorgeous. I could see Mt Hood from clear out in Boardman, about 100
    miles away.

The whole thing just totally kicked ass. I was so not ready to come back to work on Monday.

Was this the same trail we rode last year? I remember the same thing; I buzzed up to a ridge
and suddenly breathing had no real effect. It had that river run at the end as well. It was a
    great trail!

grrl, you were rocking on those switchbacks. I wish I could say the same about me!!!

that whole section was a lot easier this year for me.

Remember how we started and ended at Chinook CG? We ended there, but came in via Ruby Meadows, which
had been too wet to ride last year.

We used a different route in, Ruby Meadows. I think this year's route was more fun.

Last year Blaine, we cut out the Ruby Meadows section, as it was too swampy from snow-melt. This
year, with a true heat wave cooking up there, we added Ruby Meadows, which was a beautiful, rolling
trek through open forests and meadows leading us down to Loon Lake. The last 1-2 miles to the lake
from the west was the same as last year, as was the trek from the lake out to Chinook campground.

Remember them gnarly switchbacks down to the river where Jim busted his ribs? I think most everybody
(from what I heard & saw, anyway) tried to ride them, and we were stackin folks up like cordwood,
but no serious injuries, thank goodness. (On the second one, I was hanging so far back over my rear
wheel that when my front wheel hit a rock, it jammed the seat into my gut. ouch) Penalties on the
first one were very steep, like an involuntary flight into whitewater, as you will no doubt recall.

This year was about 4 miles longer, a lot hotter, and had more variety. Remember that "slightly
rocky" section toward the end along the river with the overhanging cliff? The Freak cleaned it
again, and I think GMan might have, too. That would be worth video, for sure.

This was the one on Brundage, the "tight squeeze". Hee hee. Don't know why that name just cracks me
up, maybe I'm turning into a perv. 😉

Those (on the Ruby trail) were just like the switchbacks on Dog River, but with a much lower
    penalty. 😄 Fun!

The one right close to the water? That was the only part of the trail I didn't clean. I kept
looking for that boulder that I hit with my head last year. All I know is that section was way
    easier this year!!

That's gotta be it, if you remember the over-hanging rock like we were in a cave. I looked at that
jumbled pile, and didn't even slow down

(to dismount and walk, of course).

Wow, all that riding's done you good! I remember the switchback section just before the river was
pretty hairy - seems like there was one part I just walked (a bit too close to a cliff for me).

I know exactly what spot (next to the river) you guys are talking about. Adam & I tried it about
four times while waiting on the rest of the group...and grudgingly watched JD show us how its done a
    couple of times.
