a long time to get organized once the USP team team dropped off the front.

Lance and Bruyneel have noted, to pull out of their bag 'o tricks in the
future if the situation arises.

The gap was meaningless. Either the other teams have already conceded first,
in which case the gap is irrelevent, as the Tour is already essentially won,
or the other teams were going to pull them back, in which case they would allow
a bit of a gap before doing the hard work of pulling it back. There was
no way the break was going to pull Lance to the finish, so he'd need to do
plenty of work himself, frying himself for tomorrow.

Lance neutralized Simeoni because he knew his presence would doom the break.

How so? 2h 42' 55" back, 50th in points, well out of climbing contention,
no one else from DVE in the break, team in next to last place. They have a

people may think that he should have acted in another way there, but
nobody can dispute his dominance was at play.
Today, it was just him having a big enough lead to play these kinds of
games in order to humiliate Simeoni, and Simeoni's "fairness" (missing
the right word here) not to stay with the leading group anyway.
I don't know if I had not told Lance to [censored] off on Simeoni's place, and
explained to the other guys that I wouldn't cave in to extortion.

Not that I find this whole affair terribly damning, but this doesn't win
any points with me, and I bet this doesn't win him any points in the
peloton also. We'll see.

I think a lot of guys, myself included, who thought Lance was a boring
leader are viewing him in a new light after the past four stages. The last
guy to win 3 mountain stages in a row was Gino Bartali in '49 - and then he
went into a breakaway the next day (even if just as a protest)? Goddamn!

back of the peloton. I think that's sign enough of where the alliances are.

I guess then one of two things would have happened...

I couldn't see the stage, just read a live feed. Could that really be
seen on TV?
