Happy Birthday! I've heard that, according to Chinese tradition, rain on your birthday is an auspice
of great prosperity for the year to come. That's why they were so happy when it was raining cats and
dogs on the cession of Hong Kong.

And you get to be a Sagittarian, supposedly the luckiest star sign. So it could be worse.

yea, this can't be understated. i remember one particuliarly bad year: 4 finals & the general test
of the GRE in one hellish week ending 3 days after my birthday. my 21st bday was nearly ruined by
finals but most bartendars eventually took pity on me & gave me my free drinks 3 days late.

geez, plus you get the conflict with xmas thing. i was at least 2.5 weeks separated.

in minnesota this rarely happened. best i ever got was around 0C and i took that when it did. where
i am now (in idaho) this last bday was around 6C and i actually got in an 80km ride which is
probably the longest ever bday ride for me. that was pretty nice, actually. the real loss around
here in the winter is no long rides in the mountains. going up is ok, but i'm scared to come back
down 6-10% grades on icy roads.

The bikes are away (except for the comutter) and the skis are out. I'd rather have an epic snow day
on my birthday (in January) than a bike ride. I needle my gf that she can't ski locally on her
birthday (in August).

A few years ago, round my birthday, I was putting air into the tires. The next thing I knew I had my
winter riding gear on and was out the door. All I really need to ride in the Winter is sunshine.
I'll do 2 or 3 rides in winter.

I'll never forget riding to school one year on my birthday in the snow. I think I was 9 or 10 years
old. There was just a light dusting on the street, and my tires made these cool ribbons of black
through the white behind me.

My birthday being in mid-August, the only question was how hot it was going to be! No issue of snow.
