Alessio's tires?

Backstedt says he never flatted. And he is a big guy. Anyone know what tires they used, or is he just on the lucky side? Are the neutral support bikes all equipped with the same thing? I'm hoping to maybe start a clinchers vs. tubulars skirmish here. -Darryl Mataya

Backstedt says he never flatted. And he is a big guy. Anyone know what
tires they used, or is he just on the lucky side? Are the neutral
support bikes all equipped with the same thing? I'm hoping to maybe
start a clinchers vs. tubulars skirmish here.

Fat Vittoria tubs. Tafi was the only Alessio rider to puncture all day, and
he only did it once.

Speaking of P-R punctures, I love this Museeuw quote:
"(...) I heard 'sssssss'. I've ridden in the same hole before. I know that

Priceless.
On a more sour note, how unstylish of PVP to point out that Museeuw
sollicited the finish line choreography. Mother's day coming up Peter, and
she'll want flowers!

I think you might be reading too much in to PvP's comments.
"On the track Museeuw asked me to take his hand. That I did, but I would
have preferred to sprint for the victory. If Johan and I hadn't punctured,
we would have been sprinting for the win."
I take this to mean that since they weren't sprinting for the win, he was
happy to shake Museeuw's hand ... But he would have much rather been taking
Museeuw on, sprinting for victory (not for 5th place) than shaking his hand
as they crossed the line in minor placings.

Too much of what? I just thought it was unstylish - you know, class.
On the other hand, french ex-pro Eric Boyer, now writing for l'Equipe, has
an interesting view on the luckless Museeuw-PVP tandem chasing the leaders
into the velodrome: he thinks Museeuw didn't cooperate 100%, for fear of
handing his arch-rival the win.

That would explain PVPs gruntiness, especially since he's not at liberty to
discuss it openly- that would amount to heresy, with Museeuw's Grand Exit
and all.

That was my take on it, too. Two old rivals/friends crossing the line
together in a postition that really didn't mean much to either. But on the
other hand, Stewart does have a point. It could have simply been PVP
spinning his finish.
