As Wafflycat said. I regularly buy from Aldi and have found the gear to be
hard wearing, washes well (if you follow the instructions) and is plenty
good enough for someone like me who rides but not as much as I would like
to. I bought a winter jacket today for 9:99, superb price if it lives up to
it's claim.

I've found it good value in the past, but today bought 2 pairs of overshoes,
and the zip broke on the first one I tried on. They changed it, but I
haven't yet dared try it again.

Musselburgh Aldi was sold out of almost all overshoes by 2pm yesterday,
socks etc. all gone for 'intermediate' / big sizes. Same with jackets.
The long sleeve jerseys had totally crazy patterns, I couldn't deal with
wearing them - I was worried about dazzling other riders! Did get some
shoes though, and they seem pretty good value.

Went down to the local Aldi yesterday at 12:30.
Almost sold out! Secutity guy said that there had been a fair scrum
when the doors opened.

Pedals, overshoes, jackets, tops, trousers etc all sold out.

All that was left was locks, light sets, childrens helmets and two
pairs of shoes.
My friend was looking for the shoes, and luckily both remaining pairs
were size 43, which fitted him, so he picked one pair. Kind of
cyclocross/mtb style, SPD compatible, 3 x velcro fastenings, big grips
on the sole and two screw in toe studs (just like football/rugby
studs), for running up hills a la cyclocross. You could put the studs
in with the key (also supplied), or leave them out. Looked like v.
good value at the price (€38) - he's using them for commuting on his
roadbike.

I had hoped to get jacket, pants, overshoes and gloves, but none of any
of those were left.
I had picked up a couple of the locks and a light set, and we were in
the queue to leave when I someone came back and returned a set of the
pants and a jacket as the wrong size for them - fitted me though,
result!

Trousers are heavy tights, waterproof in the front, breathable at the
back, with a "CoolMax" synthetic chamois. Details (logo, seam piping
around zips etc) are retro-reflective. They're curiously slightly
short though, as per the picture on the website - stop just shy of the
top of the anklebone - but will match with overshoes just fine.

Jacket is waterproof in the front, breathable at the back, single large
pocket at the back. Again, reflective pipeing at the seams, logo and a
stripe above the pocket across the back. Good zippers, good fit (long
arms, long back etc).

Both appear to be good quality, comfortable. €12 for the trousers,
€14 for the jacket, and much better than they should be for the
money. Good touring/cold weather commuting or training gear.

I wore them in this morning - they're not joking when they say
"Winter" - much too warm on the way in, so I'll be putting the pants
back into the press until it gets a bit colder.

Lights are good basic set -
front: 3v bulb type, 2xC cells, bit big'n'ugly, but fine.
back: 2XAAA, 5 LEDs, small and neat.
Fine, cheap and cheerful, batteries supplied, both have "low battery"
indicator LEDs and mounting brackets sized for seatpost on handlebars.
Locks are "cheap and cheerful" - €5, "armoured" tubular shell over
wire cable.

I'm ringing round other branches around town to see if any have any of
the other items left, and intend to buy more clothing if I can find it.

just been to Ipswich Aldi. Load of pedals and shoes left, socks, lights.
Overshoes all gone. 🙁 Ive just hoovered up all but the last 2 or 3
tops & trousers.

Tried on my haul last night.

Shirt was curiously a bit baggy around the sleeves - a bit of blouson
action going on here - but otherwise OK. I got the red/white version
which should create a few extra migraines inthe morning taffic.

Trousers were a good for me (Medium, and I'm 5'7"😉. Last years were
much too long so a result there. Windproof fronts - including the knee
which was left unprotected in last years version.

Jacket was a fine fit too. Sleeves are just right for a more stretched
out riding position. Last years was just too big all round. Material
seems to be quite warm - a light fleece. It's labelled as being
"water-resistant", so I'm guessing it's been treated with a DWR
coating.

Overshoes seem to be OK, I'd have preferred a tighter fit around the
ankle/calf area. Should be OK if tucked in to trousers though.

I didn't go for the gloves. The palm seemed to lack friction somehow.

I might yet go back (Liingston branch) for a set of pedals

Cambridge overshoes were either all gone my 10am or not delivered (there
was plenty of everything else). I got a shirt and waterproof trousers.
(I have some neoprene overshoes, but the zip is broken, and they were
always a bit of a struggle to get on.)

VFM! Got several pairs of the gloves for me and the kids, not all buyers
were buying for themselves, one woman was looking for gloves for a
family member and a bloke+helper loaded a couple of trolleys full for
ebaying (listening to them in the que working out howmuch to charge)....

On return, have managed to don said garment by rolling it up like a sock,
then persuading it to cover the anterior two-thirds of my foot. Then, by
spreading the zip along the sole of my shoe, and fastening the zip most of
the way whilst in that position, then pulling the overshoe up like a sock,
before finalising the zip, I was able to wear the thing without killing it.
It took me 20 minutes.
Mind, the amount of pop I've sunk since my last post, it'd take me 20
minutes to get my spectacles off. And I'm an optician.

I tried putting one of the 'size 8/9' overshoes on over a size 43 Shimano
MO38 shoe today (wasn't wearing the shoes - just holding it in my lap). I
gave up when it was half-way on and felt like stitches were going to pop.
Took 'em back for a refund (along with the thermals designed for
medium-sized dwarves). No larger size overshoes, and I decided I didn't like
the thermals, so I came out with another two pairs of the winter socks.

You have to be quick - really quick. When there are deals to be had, I go
into work late on the Thursday morning. I once saw a pallete of toilet bowls
and sinks go: I walked in at 9am, noticed the flying blue boxes as I walked
past to grab whatever I was there for, turned around, and the pallete was
empty - I walked over it on my way to the checkout. Cleared in *easily* less
than a minute - it was like a pirhana movie feeding frenzy.

It's annoying, I agree, but I can't see how anything can be done about
it. Once someone has bought something they can do what they like with

So did mine, but I couldn't be bothered to go back to get another which
would be similar , so I spent 10mins sewing across the zip 1cm before
the bottom.Not hard to do, so still very cheap overshoes.
