During the Tour 2006 Aldag was a co-reporter of German tv. You don't want to know what he said about Ullrich about the Tour...

I said in a differnt thread that I was glad Tmob didn't fire him, but I'm reconsidering that statement now.

I remember Aldag helping Ullrich on the Col de la Madaleine in 98 trying to shake Pantani after Ullrich's terrible day the day before upto Les Deux Alpe, I was gripped at the time.......what a shame it turned out to be question of how many jabs they had beforehand....Like i read in a different thread, there should be a ban for life, end of story from now on and that includes any involvement in sport after retirement, would anyone risk being an outcast in sport for the rest of their lives....i'm sure even some of these dumbasses would have thought twice..... 😠

That's sickening. Beating someone while they are down while spewing lies about your own involvement. I like the fact that they hired the doping docs to oversee the new "clean" T-Mobile.

Why JU was chased out while this guy still keeps his job is beyond me. How can you trust anything he says from now on?

I remember those tactics too : Aldag in the 1997 tour would go up the road with the climbers in the mountains.
Riis and Ullrich going like trains would drag the chase group up the mountain.
Aldag would sit there waiting for Ullrich or Riis to then jump from the group with Aldag leading.

They called him superdomestique and went on about his sacrificing himself for his leaders.

I tell you what, I will be watching the "Hell on Wheels" DVD with a very different feeling as of today, if I ever can stomach it. Before with pity and admiration, now with disgust and loathing.

While it is good they are admitting to doping there are no hats off from me for it. These were meant to be the good guys. The deliberate and systematic doping and lying is breath-taking. Zabel dropped it after it didn't work for him, but if it had worked? There is no redeeming quality about this spilling of the beans, especially after cashing in on it for so long.

And what are all these confirmed ex-dopers doing directing teams? Won't they at least be sympathetic to their charges doping as well? Classic Dracula in charge of the blood bank scenario. Only a very heavy hand against dopers (past and present) will rid the sport of this scourge, if at all.

Those of us who doubted how corrupted our sport was need doubt no more...

A doper and a liar should not be working in a supervisory role with any team. We might be able to excuse the riders if 1) they were pressured to dope or 2) had the felling that if they didn't dope they'd lose their jobs. Maybe you give them a second chance.

Anybody who promoted doping, urged, mandated, cajoled, etc., should be removed from the sport before they damage any more lives. What sickens me is the prospect of this type of immoral pro-doping team management trying to dope up juniors or U23s.

Aldag should be thrown out of T-Mobile and out of the sport. Worse than the years of doping ... the lies and hypocrisy!

Agree 1000%! While a young rider feeling the heat from team management and being tempted to dope in order to not loose his job can be understood (but not shielded from punishment), the lying and hipocrisy by those who did it while they were at the top of their game is unforgivable.

If this is done then no one else will want to come forward. At this time getting all the dirty linen out in the open is more important than punishing riders who were caught in a hopeless situation.

I agree for riders. But this guy lied about doping and was part of the "new way forward" and a manager complete with two experienced doping doctors.

I think that there is more to the story. T-Mobile knew exactly what they were up to and still probably tried to rig the game in their favour. The only reason Aldag is still at the helm is that he's probably got ample dirt on the team as a whole.

What signal does it send to have a liar and a doper head a ProTour team? Sure, they are "serious" about anti-doping. They lied until they couldn't lie any more.

I would have been sympathetic if they admitted everything last year when they promoted the "new way". Instead, they lied, dumped on Jan and Oscar (as if they were the only black sheep) while all the while hiding their dirty secret of what appears to be almost systematic team wide doping. Sadly, the "new way" seemed to be mere public relations.

P.S. my sentiments extend to any DS or anyone in upper team management, medical staff, etc., at ANY team. There is no way forward with liars and dopers at the helm of the sport.

I agree with serf. At first I was happy they didn't fire Aldag for the same reason Bro has pointed out. And I'm all for letting reality dictate actions when necessary, but I don't think it's necessary here. When possible let principle dictate actions.

Aldag, thanks for the confession. It means a lot to cycle, a sport that has rewarded you greatly, but it's time to take your chips and leave the casino.

I don't agree. Many men during the war years did things they wouldn't do under normal circumstances... they killed, they raped they stole... but there was good reason... they had to... the same applies here.... Its not fair to come down on Aldeg when every other team had the same doping practises at T-Mobile... lets not kid ourselves... this was the way it was... how dare we moralise on Aldeg when we clapped and cheered every other rider on the circuit believing they weren’t doped..... dip you hat to Aldeg for admitting his doping and believe him now that he wants to clean up the sport.... its those who are still silent we need to watch out for... those are the ones who are still forcing the doping culture....

Agree with the words about Aldag. The fact that these guys are coming forward and to a degree breaking the omerta is much more valuable than seeing them suffer from some lamed arsed retrospective punishment.

The punishment from the shame they feel and heat of the publics eye is enough IMHO if their confessions help to clean up the sport.

This is why now would be a perfect time to offer an amnesty to current riders. Once again we witness brilliant leadership from the UCI. They will save cycling. 🙄

We must remember that 90% of the peleton who used EPO didn't use it to win they used it to keep up ! A lot of them had to choice..... in addition EPO is not only used as performance enhancement but recovery.... you make a stage race lasting 25 days over 3500kms of mountainous terrain then I'm going need a little something to help me get through each day and recover.... win ? No I'm just here to finish......

We all keep judging cyclists for not telling the truth.... now they are and we don't like it ! We should listen...... those who do not follow history are doomed to repeat it....

Aldag is a hypocrite, a liar, and a doper. The first two are worse than the third IMO. He should be sacked. Otherwise, T-Mobile is basically admitting that they knew about the doping all along, and was fine with it as long as it brought results and didn't carry too much negative PR.

I'm not calling for Zabel's sacking. He had more to risk. He doesn't know where he stands with Milram, yet he confessed.

Aldag was a hypocrite and a liar who only confessed when assured that his job was safe. What kind of blackmail must be going on behind the scenes for T-Mobile to agree to such lunacy. Let a guy who doped for years and years run a "clean team" while employing, knowingly, doping doctors in the new "clean team".

If anything, it shows a collosally stupid strategic vision at T-Mobile. Imagine the fallout in terms of negative PR when you profess a new way forward, all the while employing someone who doped for years and years, lies through his teeth, stabs others in the back, and enlists drug peddling doctors to police and administer the anti-doping program.

The stuff of fiction ... but sadly its all too real.

This is the thing... its not a USPS/DC rider because they don't admit to their doping... that’s the difference..... agreed a confession when your back is to the wall is not ideal but its still a confession..... Aldag's confession was better than "i tried it once" or "I attempted to dope"... give them man something... what point is there in kicking Aldag out of the sport never to return so the silence of Bruyneel's way can go on ?

We need more maturity... when we used to think it was 10 guys out of 200 then yes lets banish them but now we know its 98% of the peleton... well lets all sit down and work this thing out....
