2 drinks/day) is harmful; the studies I've seen show an
effect only at significantly higher consumption. For
example: O'Callaghan FV et al. Maternal alcohol consumption
during pregnancy and physical outcomes up to 5 years of age:
a longitudinal study. Early Hum Dev. 2003 Apr;71(2):137-48.

It is difficult to ascertain if any consumption of ETOH is
harmful during the early stages of pregnancy. However, and
in my opinion, alcohol and pregnancy simply do not mix.

I have different information. Don't drink while pregnant or
when breast feeding.

Those are secondary sources. That's what a lot of health
care providers are recommending, but it's just because they
are being very conservative (i.e., covering their asses). If
you look at the studies, no significant effect has been
found at low intakes. If you want secondary sources, J.
Sullen discusses this point and how often people wrongly
extrapolate from bad effects at high intakes to saying that
NO intake is desirable: Sullen J. _Saying Yes_. New York,
Putnam, 2003.

You might just as well (wrongly) extrapolate the J-shaped
effect seen for alcohol consumption in adults (benefits at
low intake, harm at high) to pregnancy. OK, if you want to
be *really* conservative, no consumption probably is the
most cautious--also no consumption of coffee, tea, black
pepper, potatoes,...

I do not think there is any need to worry about that. When
you think about it, most people would not know they were
pregnant as early on anyway. I am sure there are some people
who do not find out that they are pregnant until they are
about eight weeks. This does not mean that it is ok to
consume alcohol at any stage of pregnancy.

Providing that one stops as soon as they do find out, then
that is ok. I wish you health during your pregnancy and hope
you have a health baby. HAPPY MOTHERHOOD!

Mitigating factors might be if the alcohol was taken
with food, and if the two beers were spaced at least an
hour apart. Your liver may have metabolized this as a
carbohydrate, and it may not have remained in your
system long.
