I have just bought a new Marzocchi Marathon S for my ride to replace the 3 y/o Judly SL that is on it's last legs. I'm having second thoughts though. My question is this....
I weight about 200lbs. With the new fork, as-is, I'm pretty much convinced I will have to upgrade to a heavier spring. Would I be better off (cost wise & performance) with a air/coil shock such as the Marzocchi MX Pro/ETA to avoid having to get a heavier spring (more air, right?)....or is my weight issue better solved by sticking to the dual coil setup of the Marathon? I've read the reviews on MTBR, but both have thier positive comments.
I have sided with the Bomber this time because of my personal experience with my Judy as well as friends' RS experiences overall. Noisiness, and overall durability......plus I just like change.

You should be fine with the current springs. I weighed over 200lbs when I bought my Marathons, and had a similar conversation with the shop about switching to heavier springs. They said to stick with the stock springs and they've been fine.

I thought you had MXR's (Z3's) like me?
Um, I do. Except I can never remember the name of them (I'm not very bright, see?) and for some reason I thought they were Marathon MXRs.

There's only two air forks out there I would consider...the Marathon or the Fox Talas RLC. I have the first version of the Marathon air and love it. With it's low pressure springs it doesn't take much more air for a 200lb rider than my 175lb wt. Maybe 3-4psi. I don't know about the long term life of the Fox fork but the recommended maintenance interval is the longest of any fork out there. My friend runs the Talas and is very pleased with it. He especially likes the travel adjust from 85 to 120mm.
