  1. Speaking of MI5.....sheesh.
Anybody know why the air inside the tubes smells like a pile of fish
left in the trunk for a few days after a successful but forgetfulness-
inducing fishing trip in humid weather?

    Bacteria.

You think you're smellin' 'em, but yer
    actually tastin' 'em.

    Nothing wrong w/ a li'l protein.

Baleen whales do it all the time.

I think old inner tube air actually smells
    more like well-aged shrimp.

    cheers,
    Tom

Because I snuck into your house, removed your valves, and poured a
teaspoon of fish sauce into each tube. Enjoy!

You're not changing your air often enough. Good practice is to deflate
your tires, and re-inflate with fresh, sweet-smelling air at least
    once a week.

  5. Instead of the deflate/inflate routine. Why don't you fill your tires
with Helium. You would go MUCH faster as they would make the bike
    lighter!!!!!

Rong, stale fish breath. Let me give you the benefit of my superior
scientific and mathematical understanding. When tires are inflated to the
same hardness, they are at the same number of pounds per square inch. Since
the number of square inches is the same, ergo the number of pounds is the
same. If you've tried it you must hve discovered that you were not any
faster with helium. That is why.

Yes I knew that. I was being a sarcastic smartass as I still haven't
figured out why someone wants to "huff tube air".......hehehe

"Business!" cried the Ghost. "Mankind was my business. The common
welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence,
were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of

Helium would deflate much faster by itself too, necessitating frequent
refills, and killing two birds with one stone !

And so, I realize now, that I should have posted my perfectly
reasonable question in rec.bicycles.tech since you guys here in
rec.bicycles.misc, while amusing, don't really know why the air inside
the tubes smells the way it does, do ya, huh? Maybe I should ask the
guy who keeps getting persecuted by MI5, give him something else to
think about, take his mind off it.
Or suggest that he upgrade to MI6.

Now, there's a marketing niche that hasn't been exploited yet.

There's moisture in the air which causes mold to grow on the inside of
the tube. You should go to a tire store and fill your tubes with dry
    nitrogen.

Yes it's true that folks find this amusing. Why on earth do you give
a [censored] about what the air smells like??? Does it REALLY matter??? Or
is there some kind of new high or fetish that comes from the huffing
    of "tube air"?

Personally I don't really care what it smells like when it comes out.

    Harry,
Relax dude...some people just like to know WHY, and it beats obsessing
    about Pam Anderson.

    SMS,
I should have known that YOU would have an explanation, after all the
hours I've spent looking at your bike lighting site, once more you
    teach me something.
By the way, that wasn't me looking at the photos of the nude female
cyclists, I didn't even know you had photos of nude female cyclists on
    your site.
Lets see that was www.bicyclelighting.com wasn't it?
    Thanks,

Deserves death! I daresay he does. Many that live deserve death.
And some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them? Then do not
be too eager to deal out death in judgement.

It is best to get compressed air that was bottled inside the Campagnolo
    factory.
