Affordable Campy bikes?

I guess - they used to fit out more of their bikes with
Campy - Veloce and Centaur were the gruppos I saw on them.

Too bad they've cut back on the good stuff.

Still some Bianchi Campiones around $1095 or get a double
crank option on an Eros, same price. Or just go Eros and
keep the triple crank. There are some last year Eros at
$950 still.

Yes, that's true and a real issue. When I was large
and typicaly owed Bianchi $80,000.00 I just couldn't
do it for you.

Quick followup. My friend was really impressed with this
place, as was I and a former Cat 1 racer friend of ours. So
she placed an order with them today for a nice Veloce-
equipped triple on a Raleigh Professional steel frame. Came
out to under $1400 total, including expedited shipping and a
few upgrades. She can't wait to get it. Thanks again for the
reference!

You might try Gary V Hobbs. He is down in Coos Bay Oregon
I believe. Mail order. Seattle is within driving distance
I suspect. A bit of a drive. $950 for 2004 Veloce triple
build kit. Plus a frameset from his inventory. It looks
like he has a variety in small sizes in a variety of
materials. You may find one to your liking.

Glad it worked. I bought a Waterford 1200 with Chorus from
Gary back in 1998. Wonderful bike. He stands by his sales
better than any local bike shop I've ever come across. And
he saved me about $600 on the frame alone. You would have to
work at it to not have a good experience buying a bike from
Gary Hobbs.

Gary responded quickly to the several emails I sent him
after hearing about his store, and his mechanic Tom was very
helpful when I called to set up the order. And, of course,
their prices can't be beat. It's interesting how often the
most pleasant businesses to work with often have the most
reasonably prices. I built up a Ti bike late last year on a
frame I bought from Mark Hickey at Habanero. His Ti frames
are very reasonably priced, and he was great to work with
before, during and after my purchase. I sent him multiple
emails asking all sorts of questions, and he responded to
all of them promptly and in great detail. I don't believe
there's anything wrong with wanting to turn a healthy
profit, and of course businesses need to pay their bills,
but outfits like these strike me as being run by people who
care about what they do more than they care about maximizing
profits. More power to them, and I feel better riding a bike
that comes from people like them. I'm still looking for a
local bike shop with a similar philosophy.
