Advice on Buying a Treadmill

if you are unsure what you want look in the local trading post type paper or
go and look on freecycle, pick something from there and see if it is what
you like, write down pluses and minuses and then when your cheap/free one
dies you will have a better idea. In fact if I get another treadmill this
is where I will go first. The first one I got was $50.00 and I used it
actively for about a year before it died. Lee

Or in the case of this area, summer is bad too. Knats that suck blood, 95%
humidity and 95 degrees at 6:30 in the morning......

Matter of fact, I believe I shall go wash off said knats as opposed to
sitting here donating blood while checking out this newsgroup....

Bottom line, do something. Just because it isn't comfortable every day
doesn't make it impossible.

Quite a few years ago I bought a Precor 9.1 for $1500 and have never
been sorry. I know they don't have this model anymore, as I said, it
was years ago. Treadmills have a weight limit that you might want to
check on. the limit on my Precor is 250 lbs. Be sure to buy from a
reputable place that has a long business history.
I live in a brutal weather area so a treadmill in the basement is a
blessing.

Why not get a YMCA membership?

When you get bored with it, you can cancel and save a lot of money.

Yeah, I know. Perhaps I was being a bit too harsh. It's currently in
the 90s where I am on the East Coast, with some humidity to boot. I'm
just glad I have a gym membership....

would go to the gym myself.. Jeff asked me not to go for the daily walk
because there is a air quality advisory today... not that I know what good
that will do as we dont have air conditioning anyway... Looks like 6 miles
is my weekly tally this week 🙁

I bought a Nordic Track from the Sears Save Shop years ago and have
been happy with it.
Sears loves to sell extended warranties also tocover what you buy.
When I say save shop it is the clearance store in my part of the world.
Indiana and I am not sure if they have thm in other states but would
guess they do.
Sears online also has a clearance section and I do find Excersise equip
there at times.

something sturdy with a decent warranty. Plus a I got discount on an
extended warranty.

While some people can stick with exercise forever, like maybe JC. Most
people go through an exercise phase, that might last a month. They give it
a good try, then they stop. I've seen it happen. That is why gyms want to
sell you a full year contract. The gyms know most customers will only come
for a month or two. If they sold gym memberships by the week, they would
make much less money....

I don't know. I don't work in membership at the Y, I work in childcare.
But, I've heard a bit about it on a local consumer advocate radio show,
Clark Howard. He often warns people against signing gym membership
contracts. He says, and I agree with him, any gym which requires a
contract does not want you to exercise, they just want your money. They
count on lots of people not coming. If everyone who had a membership
came on the same day, the gym would be too crowded and they'd have to
send people away. I know at our Y, if a member hasn't come in a while,
they'll get a call or an email asking them why they haven't been, and to
please come back.
