Great upgrade! ... I picked up a set of mtb wheels off ebay last week.. 475(?) hubs with Sun BlackEye rims, DT spokes... they seem to do the trick much better than the cone chewing cheapy 'JoyTech' hubs I was running on it for the last few years..

Shimano XT hubs laced to Mavic XM821 (tubeless) or XC717 (conventional)
rims. Reasonable price, reasonably light, rather strong. Currently have
the former on the back of my XC bike and the latter on the front.

I've also heard good things about DT swiss stuff, so maybe have a look at
http://www.dirtworks.com.au and dig about the MTB cattledog - they'll
build them up under the Wheelsmith label for you.

Also have a look and see what Kerry at http://www.phantomcycles.com.au is
selling. He's often got weird and wonderful wheels at dirt cheap prices.

thanks for the advice guys... for better or for worse (Those words sound familiar to me but I just cant place them)

talked to Kerry @ Phantom Cycles, im getting a pair of Alex DM-18 rims, spoked to Spinlock Hub and a set of Shimano 465 Cable disc brakes all mounted and ready to go for $279, im not sure if they are total [censored], but for the amount of MTB im doing at the moment and fairly tame stuff I do, when I go, I think they will be great and the price I just cant believe, going to be attaching them to a pair of Manitou Super splice I am getting from e-bay.

so my Brand new bike has cost me;
$nix 04/05 Specialized Stumpjumper M4 frame (warranty replacement)
$223 (for rebuild of new frame, included, new Truvati cranks) (Vic MTB)
$279 Alex DM-18 rims, Shimano 465 Disc Brakes Cable (Phantom Cycles)
~$200 Manitou Super Splice forks (eBay)

I have a brand new Mountain bike for about $700, I cant believe it, Vic MTB were going to try and sell me a set of shocks for $600..!!!

yeah, I've always had 'fun' walking into VicMTB... I'm at the lower end of the MTB market so they send me off to seek out Kmart brand [censored] elsewhere..

now get out there and rip up some slow roadies on that new mtb rig! 🙂

hmm.. not sure what happened to that store - used to have a great time there, last time all I got was attitude...
