Ive always enjoyed cycling (especially for fitness) and have always thought about purchasing a road bike but Ive never had to money to do so, that is up until recently. I'm looking for a durable bike that will last a fair while and that i can use for mainly fitness purposes. I dont have a big budget, I dont want to spend to much money on my first bike (about $1000 AUD but am willing to go as high as $1500). Any comments or suggestions on brands and models would be appreciated.
Also I was told by a Sales Assistant at a bike shop I went to that the Giant OCR 3(i think) would be a good bike to start out with. What do you guys think?

Here's a few to check out. - Felt F80 $1100-1300 - Learsport 7700 $1000-1200 - Merida 903-18 $1250-1450 - Giant ocr2 $1150-1350 - Scott Speedster S40 $1200-1400 - Avanti Monza $1050-1250 - Orbea Aspin $1000-1200 - Trek 1200 Personaly I likethe felt. But i'd testride a few of these and any others you find in your range and buy the one u like riding the most
I am in the market for a new bike and found a store in Sydney (cellbikes) who are selling a $1299 Cell "TEAM" bike with great specs. I have no experience with this bike or company and have actually posted a thread to ask if anyone knows about their carbon frame (VICTOR) bike. Might be worth checking them out.

My wife just bought an OCR1 and loves it. I would recommend riding different bikes in the price range you are looking at because they all have different ride characteristics. Pick the bike that you feel most comfortable on.

I am looking for a commuter bike in Sydney which I could also use for fitness and checked out Cellbikes' Team model as I am working to the same budget. I took it for a test ride and was impressed though my reference points were the Felt SR101 (flat bar roadbike) and a Malvern Star roadbike (cannot remember the model - probably better that way) and I was not comfortable on either. While shopping around, I have mentioned Cellbikes at Clarence Street and Cranks as they tried to tempt me with the Trek 1200 SL ("lifetime warranty on the frame"😉 and Giant CRX1 ("lifetime warranty on the frame", "more bang for your buck as Giant make half the bikes in the world today"😉 respectively and both have alluded to poor frame quality on Cells. Now, I am well aware of why both shops would be badmouthing a smaller "upstart" who is touting great groupsets at lower price points, this allusion to frame quality is troubling me. If Cellbikes stand by the quality of their products, why is the most important component (please do not start a flame war) only under warranty for five years whereas the wider market has set the benchmark at lifetime? Is a lifetime warranty really such a great thing as from my own experience I have never heard of a frame breaking? I am talking from the perspective of a casual bike user and realise that this would be a more important consideration for MTBs and serious road racers.
I just picked up a new Giant OCR-2 for $829. This is my first road bike in nearly 26 years. This bike is great for me!!!!! I re-entered this great sport about 2 months ago and now I ride between 75 - 100 miles per week. No problem at all with this bike!!! I would highly recommend it!!
