Hi
I've finally decided that my ancient £20 Peter Storm waterproof jacket
isn't up to the job. It makes me sweat so much that I might as well
wear a plastic sack with armholes. However, before I head off to Asda
(pleasenote, other supermarket chains are available) to buy me a roll
of bin bags & a pair of scissors, I thought I'd ask you guys if you
have any better ideas.
I've got a budget of about £80, which should buy me a fairly shiny bin
bag. I've had a look around the usual shops and there seems to be a
big gap in the market. Peter Storm stuff tops out at about £60 for a
jacket which is breathable & with all the gumph you need in it (this
would leave me cash to get waterproof troosies too). Above that, the
"proper" brands with Gortex in seem to kick off at around £120 for
some flimsy looking thing with very few pockets. So I have a couple of
questions:
i) Does anyone know if the top of the range Peter Storm jackets are
much better than my bottom of the range binbag?
ii) Is it worth paying all that extra dosh for Goretex coats? I have
Goretex boots and my feet still get pretty darn sweaty...
I need to buy a new one quite urgently and (being a last minute
shopper) I haven't left myself much time - I'm therefore a bit
restricted to stock in my local stores (Millets/Blacks/Cotswold
Outdoors) as I can't afford to wait for dotcom deliveries...
Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers
Anth
