  1. Hi All,

I must be doing something wrong. (see stats below) I thought this
second time around I would eat more veggies, but this plan doesn't seem
    to be working.

I'm using Fitday and my last week average is:
    1658 calories
    87 fat
    28 carbs
    145 protein

None of the carbs are from breads, flour, rice etc.

I walk about 10 minutes to the train in the morning, then ~5 to get to
the office. I do that for the way home as well. On my lunch I walk ~40
minutes. Last weekend on SA and SU I walk/ran ~3 miles each day.

I feel no thinner, I definitely have no extra energy (less is possible,
but that might have something with our days getting shorter). The only
thing I feel is discouraged -- people are shedding loads of weight on
low-carb, and here I am, I managed to gain!

    What am I doing wrong?????

  2. You might want to increase your fat intake and lower your protein intake.
Get the fat up to between 60 and 75% of calories, then adjust the protein to
    fit with your carb allowance.

The other important thing is to be patient. You've only restarted very
recently, so don't be so quick to feel discouraged. Weight loss takes
consistent work....there are no immediate solutions.

Are you sure there are no hidden carbs in your diet? Post some menus, too,
    just in case.

That 1.5 lbs could be just water weight and represents less than 1% of your
weight. Perhaps you need to stop standing on the scale if very slight
changes in your weight after such a short time restarting are going to make
you feel discouraged. You've got to be a bit tougher, really.

  3. Yesterday I ate:

    1 fried egg
    2 Jones breakfast sausage links
1 stalk celery w/ 1 oz. cheddar cheese
Salad, w/ 1/3 cuke, 10 black olives, jalepeno slices, feta cheese, 5
slices deli turkey, dobble of mayo
Corned beef (crock-pot) and 1/3 head of cabbage

The only condiment I have eaten is mayo. I've had no ketchup, mustard,
    actual salad dressing...

Can you give me ideas how to up my fat and lower the protein? I can
only handle so much mayo, and I actually didn't add any to today
    lunch/salad.

I know I need to be more patient. I won't freak out until the third
week... I just had such high hopes this time around 🙁

    Thanks!

That doesn't look bad to me...I assume the sausage doesn't have many carbs
and that you're counting the egg at about 1 g carb.

How much corned beef did you include?

Try cooking in butter and using oil (flax or fish oil) on your salads. You
could also put oil in your cabbage. You can vary your breakfast to include
some ground flax cereal (lot of omega 3 fats and fiber). Eat some fatty
    fish like salmon.

Weight always varies from day to day. Its better to weigh yourself only
every few days at the same time, and do a moving average. Also, try to walk
more or do some other activities that you enjoy. Being active will get you
    there.

In addition to Roger's good ideas for this, I'll add that an ounce or two
of heavy cream can up your fat intake. It works out to about 1g carb/1g
protein/100 cals/11g fat per oz. What I occasionally do with it is use it
to satisfy an urge for something sweet: 1-2 oz cream, 1 tsp dutch process
cocoa powder, and 1 tsp Splenda whipped with a whisk to make chocolate
    whipped cream.

  8. Also cream cheese, nuts, especially macadamias.

No. I haven't had the right parts for that since I've been 30 years
    old. (14 years ago)

Sodium tho. I wonder if water retention could do this. I seem to be
eating more sodium than usual and have been drinking ALOT of water.

  10. If I add more fat, I'll be adding more calories. I'm already averaging
~1700/day. Won't my calories be too high?

I have enough celery for my snack today. Tomorrow I will weigh an ounce
of cashews for my mid-morning snack.

They could be.....but you also must lower protein, so that will offset to
    some extent the extra fat.

I agree with the other poster...cashews are too high in carbs....try almonds
    or macadamia nuts.

Absolutely...if you raise your sodium intake you can retain more water. Try
watching sodium intake for a few days to see if your weight creeps
down....or, watch sodium intake 'til the end of the month and then weigh ---
it may not be a good idea for you to stand on the scale too much.

BTW, we're talk necessarily talking about adding more food, but changing
where the calories come from. The idea would be to eat less lean cuts of
meat and eat thing in favor of fattier cuts. Add heavy cream or sour cream,
but eat a bit less chicken breast to sliced turkey.
