advice for mtb tires?

really? that quick? that sucks! they probably make them that way to sell more.

any advice on a good gripping, more durable tire that last longer?

i do a lot of wheelies and skids. (i know, i sound like a little kid, but hey, it's fun...until i break a bone or go broke from buying tires!)

They make them that way so that they grip the road/dirt/gravel when you actually want them too (eg. when you are applying power to the wheels, or needing to stop).

The stickier and softer (and therefore more grippy) the tyre, the less likely it is to be more durable. Harder rubber compounds don't grip as well as softer ones.

Skids will wreck your tyres quick smart, as the previous poster has said. When you make that long black mark, you are going to lay some rubber down and like it or not, the rubber has to come from somewhere...

go for cheap tires if u like skidding

i am not a pro, but i do get crazy a little. i do some off-road and skidding (on streets) some times. anyway, i just noticed that the back tire is already losing the tread in the middle. in some points it's totally gone! is this normal, for it to wear that fast, or did i get a defective tire?

any suggestions on what tires i should get that will last?

Try a non-xc tyre. Something for all-mountain/downhill. It'll be heavier, but it'll have a lot more rubber and will last longer.
