Look to your calf as the problem area. Knots, strains, pulls in the calf
will pull on the achilles. Try self massage or massage therapy

  3. thank you kindly

  4. Ice the tendon several times per day, especially after running, no
longer than 10 minutes at a time. Take an oral OTC anti-inflammatory,
if you can handle it, with food. Get well warmed up before a run, and
stretch your calves moderately after warming up. Go barefoot as much
as possible - like whenever you are at home. (Once the soreness goes
away, consider mixing a little barefoot running into your training Add
it gradually, on warm days, on grass. Do some research on barefoot
    running first.)

    Carl:
Before you start treatment, try to figure out what the cause is.
Achilles tendon soreness can be caused by: improper shoes (arch, heel,
cushioning), too fast of an increase in training intensity (hills,
distance, speed), medical side effects, and/or physical issues such as
    uneven leg length.

A site that helped me sort through all this stuff is
www.AchillesTendon.com They have a lot of information, including
sections on causes of Achilles tendon injuries and treatment of
    Achilles tendon injuries.

My Achilles tendon problems were caused by a combination of things:
running shoes without enough arch support, increasing my distance
running quickly rather than gradually, and weak calf muscles. I
followed the advice on the site: better fitting shoes, incremental
increases in training, eccentric calf muscle strengthening, stretching,
warm-ups, ice afterwards, etc. and it worked for me. You might want to
    check it out. Good luck.

  6. It is probably just tight. The pressure can be easily released with a
razor blade to the back of your ankle.
