Adhesive for PX BB?

Phil supplies a tube of blue with their rings.
If you have difficulty removing a LocTite-ed fastener, use a heat gun
first. The stuff breaks down in the uncomfortably-hot-to-touch range,
well before the my-paint-is-aflame range.

My bottles are well worn. See if the heat-release temperature is still
readable on yours.

Oh, heck I just looked it up - 325 deg F.

Green is for permanent assembly - you will never get it apart
non-destructively. Red requires considerable heating and wrenching to break
loose - the sort of heat that burns paint off your frame. Stick with the
blue grade.

Or nothing at all. I've had Phil Wood BBs for 35 years, never used
anything but anti seize and never had a problem with one losening, not
even Italian.

I had a bit of trouble with a Shimano BB and "english" threads
unscrewing while in the middle of "no-where" on The Savannah Way in the
NT-Queensland border area. I tried using blue Locktite and it lasted
about 30 km....

Finally I saw a MINE where they had a welder.... A SS bead on the drive
side of the BB took care of things. It was applied by a boilermaker who
took GREAT care that my paint would NOT be harmed - and it WAS NOT :-)

It is NOT FUN dealing with this kind of situation in the middle of
no-where when you figure you have done all the "due diligence" stuff and
the BB keeps unscrewing.... A axe/hammer and a screw driver are not
(IMHO) the tools to use. But then when the Locktite does not keep the BB
screwed in place, ANOTHER dimension of "thought" MUST be used. A classic
case of thinking outside the box....

But you know, the Australians in that part of Oz have incredible
ingenuity at solving such problems. I kept bicycling in that part of OZ
until my derailler (RD) broke and went into my wheel, and..... An
aboriginal musician gave me a lift (at my paying for his petrol) to
Katherine where it was all repaired.....

Then, more "fun" along the Nathan River Road. Life and it's experiences...

Will apologies to Phil, Don't use loctite at all..use grease and 2
tools. I have never installed any of the dozens(including my own) of PW
BBs with loctite of any color...

How about prepping the BB shell, then installing it 'correctly'..works
evertime for me..never had a BB loosen in 22 years of wrenching. .

THIS TIME I will install it myself. The last time it was installed by a
LBS.

2 PW tools will be used. Also, I noticed the retaining ring with the
Shimano BB installed by the LBS has some "radial" slop in it. To me that
means the retainer ring is for a different BB (other than the Shimano)
or it is "worn".

What a PITA that experience was! Also, next time I go across outback OZ
I will take some BB tools ;-)
