  1. Looking for suggestions on the best way to add bottle bosses
where none currently exist. I'd rather not go the RivNut
route, so lets not start that discussion. I currently have
the twofish strap-on bottle cage, and its quite flimsy.
Sheldon's QBP catalog has a Minoura mount, again strap-on -
anyone have any experience with the sturdiness of this
mount? The ideal solution would be some sort of clamp-on
bottle boss(es) - do these exist? I noted on a previous
thread that a clamp-on boss for an "E" front deailer would
perhaps work, but they're $25 each, and I'd need two. Thanks
    for your help.

I must admit I'm a fan of normal automotive hose clamps.
Cost = nearly zero, if you use the right mount you can hide
the ugly (?) adjuster under the bottle, and you have those
clips for when something major breaks (racks normally, but
I've also seen a cracked frametube reinforced by them.)

It appears that frequency of zip tie discussions is
increasing rather rapidly. That, along with the absence of
any follow-up from Carl updating us on the progress of his
Fury Roadmaster, makes me think that something rather large
is amiss. Lance even won a sprint a few days ago. Surely
these things are a sign of things to come. Perhaps the alien
    invasion is nigh! :-)

Some water bottle cages made by Blackburn and others have "ears" on them that can be clamped with hose clamps.
I would protect the frame area with remnants of a blown inner tube and use all stainless hose clamps. I have an older frame that has no holes, bosses, or other fittings. I equipped it with water bottle cages and hose clamps years ago and have never had any problems.

Hi, There are a couple of different brackets that clamp on
to the tube and then you fasten the cage to the bracket.
Take a look at the Elite VIP Universal Support: elite-it.comc
    Prodotti.jsp?ID=09p

Your dealer will either have these or should be able to get
them. You put it on and then bolt the cage of your choice to
it. I have one on my old road bike, I paid $10 for it. Well
    made, not hard to install.

Here is another one similar to the Elite VIP, and for less
    money: nashbar.comprofile.cfm
    tegory=1023&brand=&sku=3478&storetype=&estoreid=

Another solution, although not as neat looking, is to use a
pair of hose clamps. Find a cage that you can clamp to, this
    type works well: nashbar.comprofile moreimages.

Back when I was working in a Schwinn shop, anyone who wanted
a water bottle on their Varsity or Continental also got a
couple hose clamps in the bargain. There was nothing else
that clamped down on the 1" diameter pipes those bikes were
    built from.

Minoura makes two mounts which can be stapped around a frame
tube and accept a standard water bottle cage:

I am using the first one mounted on the vertical section of
the handlebar stem on a Bike Friday tandem - I've had no
    problems with
    it...
