On this morning's spin I was messing around with my phone, taking silly pictures of myself on the bike. Luckily for me, I neither dropped the phone or the bike and got home in one piece. I did get quite a nice shot of my front wheel though:

Unfortunately the piece of junk is so poor on HCI that it presents 2 interfaces to windows, 1 that lets you copy the files and 1 that deletes all files on it and makes it work as a web cam. Its inability to not drain a battery in 5 seconds means that its only ever used as a web cam now as i can only get power into it via usb.
The result of hooking the hand chord of a Fuji F11 roudn a space grip and holding it looknig dead forwards on top of a bar bag can be seen

Its due to the speed that the wheel is travelling at (bloody fast).
Despite apparent position of the camera, it is actually about the hight of the axle. Light from the wheel rim takes longer to reach the camera than light from the axle. When you take the picture, you are seeing the centre of the wheel in real time, but the rim of the wheel in past, approx 1E-9 s ago. In that time the wheel has moved about 1/8 of a turn.
For a 700mm diameter wheel you are moving at (1/8)*3.14*0.7/(1E-9) m/s
It has absolutely nothing to do with camera aliasing, or any other camera effects. ;-) ;-)
